Are you putting regular gas at some back alley gas station that mixed water with their gas?? Probably not haha but that is indeed strange, we have very cold winter here and never has my gas cap froze.

Neither my gas door nor the gas cap has ever froze since I have owned this car and I even go to the car was numerous times throughout winter.

Doesn't happen on any other cars for that matter, and the others take regular. So it's definitely not the gas/water condensing...
So now I guess I'll just have to figure out where does the water actually come from....
I'll have to try the spray I guess.

lol mine ****ing freezes every damn winter 2-3 times.....i actually had to buy a rag, go in the gas station washroom and run the hot water, soak the rag and hold it over the gas cap to thaw out...it happens on the bottom metal ridge. what i find is on snowy days with lots of wind it gets in the cap and causes issues. my car is out in the elements 24/7.

Here's a pic I took the day of which is exactly the pool you mentioned:

Nah, mine sits outside all winter, even when the whole car had a layer of ice, the gas door and cap never gave me trouble. Maybe a bad seal somewhere letting too much water in?

Yeah, plus, even though mine is in a garage overnight it still sits outside alot during the day and when driven. And a lot of that time it is is snowing/thawing/freezing and have never had an issue with the gas cap or door ever freezing. That is for this car and every car I have had. And even though I have a garage, it is not heated, so it is not like stuff is melting and drying out. Gotta be something else.

I put spread a super light amount of silicone grease around the metal ring part and the rubber o-ring inside the gas cap and haven't had the problem since... only the damned clicking mechanism for the flap freezes now

Yeah, it definitely takes a lot to get in there in the first place so it is rather confusing. I'm sure the fixes will work but how it gets there in the first place is still a mystery.

We have not had any problem with the cap on either car, but both have had their fuel filler doors freeze from time to time. Have to poke it a few times with your fingers to get it to break open. . .
