Wheel/ Tire Size are off
I just purchased a 2011 C300, Sport.....all 4 wheels are 225/45/17....though everywhere I look at tires it says they should be 245/40/17 on the rear and 225/40/17 on the front....is this dangerous at all? Will I notice any big difference in performance? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!

If you are 4matic and on stock rims, your transfer case won't like you. Unless all the rims are the same width ( OEM front rims are 7.5'' Front and 8'' Rear, that's why the tire size is different because the rims are different widths)
Performance is negligible.
If your car is indeed 4matic, you need to get informed on what size rims you have asap.

Where are you located? What brand tires? I have 2 Continental 245-45-17 brand new that I will trade you for the 225-45-17 if they are similar....Let me know!

You are fine. It is not the width of the rim, it is the circumfrence of the tire that you want the same. And as long as you have the circumfrence tires on the same axle you are fine. 225/45/17 all around is fine.
