Continental Tire Differences....

so OEM continental tires wear out quickly. This is by design so they get you in more often to buy tires
we are at 45k, so I am assuming this is the second set of Continental Conti tires.

For those who have this brand..which VERSION do you have?
Do you like the all season ones with higher mile warranty?
I am concerned they will not feel sporty enough.

Continental
ContiSportContact 5
summer tire
245/40R17 | 91H
20,000 mile warranty

Continental
ExtremeContact DWS06.
all season
245/40ZR17 | 91W
50,000 mile warranty

Continental
ContiProContact
all season
245/40R17 | 91H
60,000 mile warranty

Treadlife Warranty: 6 Years / 80,000 Miles (S- & T-Rated) (1) 6 Years / 60K (H-Rated), 40K (V-Rated) (1) Half mileage for rear if different size than front

See how they do that… 1/2 miles warranty if the front are different than the back….shady

The same size tire....different specs per Manufacturer. MB has 500 tread life, VW and Audi 400. MB is a lighter tire too?!?!

What is even more interesting is the prices are different for each manufacturer! Unless there is something I am missing there, that is really strange. Maybe next time I sho[ for tires I will try looking up the same tire price for different cars and order the cheapest one.

I have Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 all season on my 2008 C300 sport with staggered setup. I have been happy but the staggered setup prevents full rotation and increases cupping in the rear. I am lucky to get 30k miles before they get noisy even with plenty of tread.

Its a conspiracy.

Ive always known that there were OEM tires that do not last long. My Passat was through a set of ContiPros tires in 20k...I threw some USED tires on there, ContiSportContact I think and got another 20k easily

I managed to get 25K out of my set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS06, this was due to the negative camber in the rear of my 07 E63.
But also because my car has been lowered which introduces more camber. I just had all 4 wheel alignment done, before I replaced the rear tires.
The front are still good with plenty of tread on them, 6/32 after 2 yrs.

No conspiracy. There are all kinds of tires with a lot of different purposes, which affect their longevity, along with the condition of the car they are on, the roads they are on, the driving style of the owner and on and on. Two different owners of the same car with the same tires on them can have different experiences with them. I hardly think Mercedes, or any other manufacturer, selects their tires based on how quickly they wear out. Maybe more based on reaching a price point for the type of car they would go on. Plus, even if they wear out quickly, I am guessing that the majority of the owners do not even go back to the dealer to get a new set.

I've never been to the dealership to get tires, I just purchase them from Tire Rack.

I've heard too that there are OEM tires that are deliberately made to wear out faster. Perhaps the theory is the average customer will automatically put on the same brand tire when they replace them, thus the tire maker gets the second sale. Wouldn't surprise me, hearing how brutal car companies are on suppliers to lower cost of their products.

Yeah, what that article stated and what a number of those posters on that forum said is that car manufacturers select tires with very specific characteristics, like quietness and braking distance and other performance peramters they prioritze. Makes perfect sense and hardly surprising. Nothing was said there is a conspiracy by car manufacturers to have them wear our as quick as possible so they get you back into the dealer to replace them.

There would be a lot of MB owners that couldn’t be bothered taking their car somewhere else to get new boots. Convenience of having them changed while having a service would make sense to them.

I just replaced the factory MO Continental’s with Continental ExtremeContact DWS06’s all around in the 17” staggered setup on my ‘12 C300 4Matic Sport and my initial impression is excellent.
