Wheel Bolt Size

What's the spec for our wheel bolts? Over on the W222 forum someone mentioned this nifty tool you can use to line up your wheel when you put it back on ... I would think Mercedes might use the same M12 x 1.5 bolt on all models, but who knows?

I don't know what size the wheel bolts are, but my gf's C250 has a plastic one of those guide tool things in the trunk. She bought the car new, and has never done anything to it, so I have to assume it's a factory tool that came with the car.

I'm new to lug bolts. Why would a special tool be needed?

[BENEFITS] This wheel bolt pilot pin guide tool makes it easier for you to mount wheels and tires by lining up the lug holes to the hub so you don't have to worry about balancing the wheels between your knees as you're trying to bolt them up to your car.

You don't really need to use it, it's just a helper tool - as Tom posted, the intent it to make it easier to align the lug bolt holes in the wheel with the lug bolt holes in the rotor. I used it the first time I swapped wheels on her car, didn't use it again after that. On her C250 the wheel/tire combo is pretty light, so it's not hard for me to put it on the hub pilot and slide it around to get one of the lug bolts started. If I was dealing with heavier rolling stock from a bigger car I imagine I would find the tool more useful.

Thanks Xzero! I like the exercise of tossing around a 45 lb wheel/tire as much as the next guy, but I think this little doo-dad is gonna be pretty handy.

Funny thing, my MBZ is my first car that uses lug bolts, all others have had lug nuts. Obviously the lug bolts are super nice if you use spacers on the wheels ...
