Hi Rica155! No i have not. I noticed that my oil filter cap was broken on the inside. As mentioned in the thread above. After changing the oil filter cap, I no longer hear the noise.

Hey, guys. I am a member of this noise problem club too. Because I was having a rattling noise on the first 2-3 seconds in the morning when I first started the engine I changed the entire timing kit, with the cam adjusters, vacuum pump and oil cooler( the last 2 were leaking oil). Besides this, I also had the noise at 1500rpm when the engine was hot but I thought it was due to the timing chain. But now, I changed everything I said above and I still have both the sound when I first start the engine and the 1500rpm sound. Do you have also the first time starting noise too?

Hi! No i did not have the rattling noise when i started the engine.

Hello, there is one guy on YouTube Bimmerhead who fixed it by changing the cranshaft bearings that is the reason of the low oil pressure.

the problem is caused by low oil pressure i think if the plug falls down after u replaced the tensioner it also happened when the car was new but the the crankshaft bearings were also new and everything ,so it did not cause problems but now since our cars have more miles U cant have both.

Hello for all owner of w212 1.8 engine with that’s knock noise is from the crank bearing that conect the piston rod because of missing oil and high temperature is damage in that area
Also the camshaft are damage so the oil pressure is low

Possible solution

For all of you having a rattle noise from the cam adjuster area, please check that the sprocket still has the "valve" - bear with me here - it's one small metal plug, with a spring, a washer and a circ-clip, in that order, inside the cam adjuster body - the part where the timing chain sits on. For this you need to remove the coils and the cam cover, turn the engine by hand until you see it. On the exhaust sprocket, somehow the clip failed, and the little pin was left siting on the coolant passage. I had another cam sprocket so made the mods directly. No more noises, hopefully that was all.
