2006 C350 - Screen going black

SORRY, TYPO IN THE SUBJECT LINE, ........................ THE CAR IS A 2008, NOT 2006

Daughter drove her car to work and back today, all is good. She left to run a quick errand and reports to me that her radio/nav screen went black as sdhe was driving.

I searched to see if I could find anything but was not able to come up with anything solid.

I found this thread which suggests putting the phone on Airplane mode: RoadTop CarPlay and head unit display issues - MBWorld.org Forums We did that, then the screen started to flicker. Shutting the car off and turning it back on did not help either.

Any words of wisdom here? I am sure that many of you may have experienced this over the years. Is the LCD screen shot and needs to be replaced?

Thanks in advance.

I didn’t click the link but you speak of airplane modes and CarPlay, and the 2008 had neither. That reduces your pool of folks with this issue since we’re talking aftermarket, not to mention variations to installation.

Good luck, but most of us won’t be of any help to you.

Thanks.

In regards to the airplane mode and CarPlay, I mentioned this as this is the only thread I could find in regards to the issue.

I am sorry if I was not clear, the car only has its original OEM Equipment and screen, no aftermarket mods at all. All we have is a Bluetooth connector plugged into the cigarette lighter which allows to play music through a smartphone by selecting a radio station.

Hopefully someone can chime in with suggestions, thanks again.

Assume she has a flip upreen like my 2009 C300 with NAV. My screen went black after a mild puff of smoke and insulation odor...Google LCD screen replacement video on YouTube by Scott Elliot, an Aussie whose videos enabled me to fix /replace the LCD. Easy process with Scott's help. I bought the correct used screen from a Canadian site (https://enetautoparts.com/)) GOOGLE for other sources. Here are a few links: I looked on eBay too...a few used ones there.

Correct, it is the OEM flip up screen.

So if I understand you correctly, sounds like the LCD Screen is tired after 15 years and needs to be replaced?

Thanks very much for your reply.

Quick update: As anticipated, the LCD Screen was old and tired and needed to be replaced. All is now working again as it should.

OEM, as I did not want to go used or aftermarket in the hopes it will last a while.
