Differential fluid service interval - W204 C250 RWD

Is there a requirement for servicing the differential fluid on a RWD C250 (similar to a transmission fluid service)? If so, at what mileage/time interval?

Thank you in advance.

There is nothing in my service manual for a luxury sedan. I would think it’s the same for the coupe.

Yea, same for my manual
ive only been able to find a thread from 8 years ago stating that the fluid should be good for 100k miles https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-c...id-change.html
and one from YouTube which said good for at least 80k miles
no definitive answer.

I wonder if the diff fluid are also labelled as "good for the life of the car" like transmission fluids were initially which led to transmission failures.
I wonder if its better not to service the diff fluid on very high mileage cars (again like transmission fluids)

Mine has 105k on it now so I called factory trained tech I know. He says it only needs changing in a non AMG if it gets contaminated by getting water up to the level of the driveshaft input. The factory fill is Castrol long life 75W-140.

Bumping an old-ish thread, as I was just scanning through the Maintenance Booklet for my wife's '14 C250 and didn't see anything about a diff fluid change, all the way out to 150k miles or 15 years (which is as far as the intervals go; beyond that it's just kind of generic guidance). The Maintenance Booklet does recommend replacing the rear diff fluid if equipped with an LSD, but as far as I can tell looking at a '14 C-class brochure, that only applies to the C63. I don't see anything in either the Operator's Manual or the Maintenance Booklet that specifies what the the diff fluid is, so good to see Old Piggy's note that it's 75W-140.

A differential is a much simpler mechanism than an automatic transmission - the auto trans has all sorts of narrow fluid passages, solenoid valves that can get sticky, etc etc, hence the concerns about when or if to do transmission fluid changes on a higher mileage transmission. A diff is just big gears, so I can't see any reason changing the fluid would be an issue.

Not to mention it's super easy and accessible on the W204. Plug takes a standard hex and you don't even need crush washers. Change it once and there's a good chance you're good for the life of that car, so why not.

I changed the front and rear diff fluid in mine just because. I did it around 140,000 miles. I have no idea if it was ever done before. For the rear I remember how good the old fluid looked, i was thinking it must have been done more recently just how it looked. I didnt see any oil staining or signs the diff was leaking, but I wanted to make sure it had the proper fill level anyways. Its one of those things I just had to see for myself.

I re-used the same filler plug, I just screwed it back on to proper torque, 50nm I believe. later on I came across an MB procedure that shows a sealant installed on the fill plug prior to installing. I havent had an issue with leaking thankfully. Sealant makes sense why I had such a hard time removing the fill plug, had to use my impact on it.

Teflon tape. I put 3 layers then torque to spec. Has never leaked or gotten "wet".
