New owner, questions about services performed at dealer

Greetings folks, new member here. After years of BMW's, and watching their design department lose their minds, I'm trying something different. We recently acquired a beauty 2013 C300 4Matic with 83K. But, I need a hand.

I was able to look at its service history thru carfax and get an idea of what's been done before purchase. This brings me to what I'm writing about today. Our local MB dealership serviced the car at about 77K miles, but they did not list any of the items they serviced. Instead they listed the following:

- Recommended maintenance performed
- Maintenance inspection completed

Now as I understand it, the transmission should be serviced at 70k. So, I am curious if they did the transmission, and maybe even the diffs. Unfortunately, they have no interest in disclosing what they did. As such, I am curious what the likelihood is that they would have taken care of that based on their notes?

I will be climbing under the car when it warms up a little and maybe there will be some clues down there as well. Would really love not to do a transmission service if it has just been done.

Thanks for any help,
ChicagoDog

Interesting mileage since the trans service is exactly at 77k miles for the 7G+. See if you can get a printout from that dealership. Tell them you'd like to have it services but you don't know what's been done. Outside of that and if I were to guess, I'd say it's been done. Previous owner probably went in for exactly that, given the mileage.

This may help to know what needs to be done and when. Even thought the C-Class is not shown to need a tranny service at any time, I think that is an error. 77,500 miles is given for the newer generation G7 trannies.

The dealership (any Mercedes dealership) should be able to tell you if any tranny service has ever been done.

Since you are new to Mercedes, one of the first things you should get for your car is a Mercedes-specific scanner. Any time you come here with a problem, you will be expected to have had your car scanned for codes. I recommend the LAUNCH Creader Elite BENZ or the LAUNCH Creader Elite 2.0 BENZ, either available on Amazon. Then I suggest you look into a membership with BenzNinja (www.benzninja.com) who does remote diagnostics and custom programming to enable hidden features of your car.

I'm going to say the trans was not done. I'm basing this on my car came with a Carfax that lists its service records. While it is not that detailed it does list things like trans serviced, battery replaced, tires etc. I'll attach a copy so you see what mine looks like.

I would call that dealer and act like you want to bring it in for service. Give them the vin and ask them if it does in fact need the transmission serviced and whatever else is recommended so you have an idea how much it will cost.

I'll add I go through the Maintenance Manual that was included with the Operators Manual and make sure everything is done. Should be in the glove box.

those are generic itemizations. It could have just been a courtesy inspection, I took mine in for the sub frame inspection and a nys inspection, they reported similar to your car fax. If an oil change is done it should itemize something like “oil and filter changed” or “tire rotation performed” a tranny service should show as its own itemization like “transmission serviced” or even possibly “oil and filter changed”. If the carfax doesn’t show along those lines I’d suspect it wasn’t done. Check the pan bolts to see if they look newish, also there was an updated oil pan for the 7g trans. They would have replaced the original with a new one so if the pan looks old that’s another sign.

All service done at any Mercedes dealership is recorded in the vehicle history report. It’s available to all dealers in the US. I don’t understand why they would be reluctant to give you that information. It’s not some kind of proprietary secret. Have you spoken with the service manager?

free... 😳

"something for free"... Ask to buy the report!
When they don't find the associated price, perhaps it'll be free.

Plan B: buy some services like oil change wipers and then ask for something free.

2013 has the 7G+ that has deeper pan with oval indents and green overflow tube, blue trans fluid.

The "Mercedes Upgrade" refers to the very early 7G pans that were all square and black overflow tube, then Mercedes changed them to have a beveled end and taller overflow tube (white). I doubt any W204 came with the non-beveled pan, could be wrong. Mercedes would replace the square pan with the updated beveled pan and white overflow tube during trans service.

Then with the "transmission pan upgrade" sold online people will install the 7G+ pans with green overflow tube on pre-2010 models (that originally came with the 7G pan with white overflow tube), but use the same red trans fluid. Mercedes does not perform this, unless you pay them to I'm assuming. My 2010 has the 7G pan and Mercedes did the trans service. My pan is rusting so I recently bought a new pan that has the white overflow tube.
