Original Radio issues (Display off but radio works)
I have a 2007 w204 with the small screen navigator. Suddenly the screen of the navigator doesnt turn on.
the radio works and the buttons on the radio itself work fine but the backlight behind them does not work so you cant see them at night.
I have noticed that i cant adjust the volume from the steering wheel, and if i get to nav, tel, audio from the instrument cluster i only get _ _ _ _ some lines which feels like no communication.
I have also seen that if you remove the key from the car the radio wont turn off but i have to press the button. Normally it would turn off after removing the key
Any help appreciated.
On the dash does it always display ----, or is that only when you scroll to the Nav, Audio, Tel? if you scroll to Trip does it show all the info if you scroll down, like trip od, mileage, gas mpg?
Does the horn work?
Im wondering do you have any issues with water getting in the trunk? I believe the radio control unit is in the trunk.
Maybe try disconnecting the battery for a bit then reconnect. See if that resets anything.
i did a little searching around for issues like you list but most people have installed aftermarket stuff, like ipod adapters or aftermarket head units.
Ill do some more searching, but maybe a mercedes specific obd scanner can lead you in the right direction. It is a good investment.

No other things have the right data, like speedometer, settings etc.

Heres a diy article on how to remove the radio. Maybe theres a loose connection somewhere. Theres a 10amp fuse on the back which im not sure exactly what it does.
So I believe my Navigator20 packet in the passenger floor got broken. After routing the wire that went to nav packet directly to the back of the radio, screen started working and every functionality is working except Nav direction on instrument cluster (North, west, south, east) and the map that you can access by holding the button on the knob but since those maps were from 2007 i didnt care of lossing that kind of functionality and of course not spending anything is still better than spending some money for some maps you dont use.
