Audio stopped working after detailing 2013 C-300

i bought the car last week, 86k miles.
everything was great, music played normally before wash, after wash (approximately 7 minutes) after I picked it up, audio randomly stopped for everything, Bluetooth FM and all those radio stuff, seatbelt alarms still work.
tried restarting the car but music only worked for a couple seconds.
it’s the 2nd day now and when I turned on the car this morning the audio played for like a minute and 2 before dying.
i check the front fuse for the radio, didn’t seem broken, and I couldn’t remove the back fuse.
please help audio is more important than engine for me

Check the spare tire well. Is it wet? If it is, your trunk trim plugs are leaking, or the tail light gaskets are done. Cheap fix and not hard in both cases.

so what do I tell the mechanic to check when I take the car to him tomorrow? I think they’ll check codes and try doing a hard reset by disconnecting front battery, idk what else to tell him

It doesn’t take a mechanic to look in the trunk. Lift the tire cover and remove the spare wheel. Is there water?

I’ll do it today when I’m back from work, but it’s been 48 hours I doubt there will be any water, I’ll keep the thread updated though

if there is water leaking into the trunk it will still be there at the bottom below the spare tire. Just lift the floor up and look, feel around on the bottom for water collecting. I had a pretty bad water leak, the floor got damp and pooling water below.

Plus i would check the front SAM closely for signs of water getting under the cover.

turning things around

The Audio system is power-managed by SAM to prevent draining the starter battery.

I would recommend you do not to use your car audio without running engine. The systems are very power hungry ~20Amps +

The big AGM packs a good 800A punch for cranking couple times but not for draining over many hours.

The 40+ computer modules need a stable environment that is compromised by low voltage. When modules go nuts, weird things go downhill with degraded operations.

If you want to stay on top of this, you use a good scanner and reboot the chassis at regular interval to untangle poor networking by gateway modules.

you were right, it was water down there, I was at work all week so I couldn’t check it, but my dad took it for a lengthy drive with the windows down and the radio suddenly just worked again by itself!

thank you and thanks to everyone for the help

If you havent already you may want to replace the trim fasteners at the sides of the trunk. Mine were old and looked to be leaking which is why water was getting in. Since replacing them the trunk has been dry whenever I checked.

I wrote a thread when i replaced mine: https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ar-window.html
