This is the very first sighting of the 2008 Mercedes C-Class and although it's heavily disguised, the timing is significant - indicating the W204 (as it's known by its internal codename) is right on schedule.
The next generation C-Class will arrive in the 2007 calendar year, followed twelve months later by the wagon version. And although it's hard to tell from these pictures, the new C-Class is expected to be much sportier and no longer just a downsized S-Class, but a more modern Benz which hope to gain the attention of younger and less conservative buyers.
The rear-wheel-drive sedan will be the first powered with Benz' KDI EVT (electronic valvetrain without camshafts; supercharged and direct-injected) engines, and will incorporate other new technologies including the third-generation 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.
But as independent and modern as the new C-Class looks, it will be sharing even more component-wise with E- and S-Class models.

I found that funny...doesnt even make sense, so in 2006 we'll be getting 2015 cars...amazing the advances in automotive technology
Later in the year refers to later in the year 2007 if one were to take that sentence into context properly.
Look, this ain't rocket science, and hardly qualifies as big news - MB has these cars on a 7-year cycle. The W203 appeared mid-year 2000 in the EU, and came here in October of 2000 as a 2001 model. Sounds like they are right on schedule to me.
In the meantime, the W203 gets its final kicker in the fall in the form of the new 4-valve V6 engine family - no more 4 cylinders for our market. Even the entry-level car is going to be over 200 hp. The C350 will be terrific, of course, but vastly overpriced like the top-of-the-line always is. Since the W203 is now pretty well sorted out, the time from Oct '05 until the introduction of the new car seems like a good time to buy if you don't need to be the first on your block with the new body.

Looks like MB has fallen prey to the same "form over substance" disease now afflicting BMW.
