W204 SAM module fire, replacement issues – multiple electrical faults afterward
I’m looking for some guidance regarding a SAM module issue on my Mercedes W204 C320 CDI Amg package with harman that turned into a bigger electrical nightmare.
Last summer, the following happened:
I locked the car, but the right rear tail light stayed ON, with the indicator stuck, even though the car was completely off. After a few minutes, the SAM module overheated and caught fire. I managed to extinguish it before the damage spread further.
I replaced the SAM module, but:
- I could not find the exact same reference as the original one
- The original SAM was completely destroyed, so coding/cloning from it was impossible
Since installing the replacement SAM, I’ve been dealing with several issues:
• Rear electric curtain no longer works
• Error message: “rear backrests unlocked”, even though my car does not have folding rear seats
• Random battery error messages appearing without a clear pattern
• Left indicator stops working and throws an error if it’s used for too long
At this point, I’m wondering:
- Is this likely due to incorrect SAM variant / coding mismatch?
- Could there still be wiring damage or a short circuit from the original fire?
- Does this require SCN coding with Xentry, or a specific SAM part number?
If anyone has experienced something similar, or knows which checks I should prioritize (ground points, CAN lines, SAM variants, coding), I’d really appreciate your input.
Thanks in advance 👍

Rear one I am not sure if you need coding if you get exact part.
Front SAM if you want to get it to work, you need exact part and do SCN coding.

Alan: So how much to fix the car
Mech: For you good sir . . . . . $3000 dollars
Alan: $3000 DOLLARS! ARE YOU NUTS?
Mech: I remind you sir . . . . the car WAS on fire . . . . .

Usually if you get a Sam from the exact make and model it can be plug and play. Butt if it's a Sam from a different car it will need to have three varients changed to match your car.
This is going to require DTS Monico or Vediamo PC softwares to accomplish this. And probably a little trial and error to get all the accessories working correctly.
If you don't have any of the PC softwares you will have to get them or get someone to remote login and fix it for you. If you need someone or the software message me and I'll try to get ya some help.
