EIL OR ESL? Failure what’s the process how to fix?

If the lock has not engaged then search for a detailed post under my name that goes through the replacement process including photos. I recommend disconnecting the ESL and fitting an emulator. It is a DIY task, and my post explains in detail. I'll see if I can attach a link.
However, if the lock has engaged and will not disengage then the entire steering column will need to be removed to remove the failed ESL assembly. Mine failed unlocked so I can't help much here. Angle grinders are required I believe.

If your ESL is stuck in the locked position then I would insert the key, drop the footwell liner then get a mallet or hammer and hit the column and or the alloy plate that shields the ESL. There is a chance that this might engage the motor and unlock the ESL. Frankly I'd get medieval on it!
If that works disconnect your battery immediately as doing this then disconnecting the ESL will permanently freeze it in the unlocked position.
If this doesn't work, in order to remove the jammed ESL from the column requires its central mounting bolt to be ground down. I have read that someone did this in situ with a dremmel tool, but having been under there I don't think I could pull that off.
There is likely someone in this forum who has replaced a locked ESL. Maybe they will have some tips. I was SO lucky!

Hitting it with a mallet sounds barbaric . But if it works I’ll do it . To get the emulator installed I would have to send the ESL to the eBay seller along with my keys ? Or would I have to buy the Emulator and then send all three items to the eBay seller ?

You can be barbaric with your jammed ESL because if you can release it, you disconnect it. It becomes 100 % redundant.
You order your new emulator on ebay. Once you have paid you get an order number. Send one key and your ignition switch along with the order number to the seller. After 4 days or so you will get your key back, your ignition switch (now coded to your new emulator) and the emulator itself. The seller operates a national service and I think is based in New Jersey or somewhere up there.
All you need to do is plug the ESL harness into the emulator, refit your ignition switch, and you are good to go. You can leave the ESL on the column PROVIDED you have managed to disengage it.
Best of luck!
