im looking to possibly delete the multimedia package since the only thing i really need from it (rear view camera) can be added individually for much cheaper. the other thing id be losing would be the larger screen but i want to know if there is that much of a difference from its smaller counterpart.

what else would i be losing if i deleted the multimedia package? i dont even know what "command navigation" is. and i use my phone for the weather and traffic anyway...

does this sound like i need the package? is multimedia really necessary for me? i can save over $2000 on the price if i decided to delete it. im pretty sure id have more use for $2000 than i would for "sirius traffic and weather".

the only thing im really concerned about is losing the larger screen. can anyone please help me out

Got my 205 on Friday, and driven it for 200km now. I got the Audio 20 as in my opinion comand is overpriced. You loose DVD and video playback which only works in low speeds for the front passengers. You also loose Dolby digital Etc, but those are only for movies anyway.
The comand maps are much better looking and faster to recalculate routes vs the garmin maps. the garmin maps works flawlessly and have a lot of options, and is quite accurate.
Later this year when carplay will be available, hopefully for audio 20 also, you can use apple maps.

thanks for the info. can you give more details on what you mean by video playback? does that mean with the 8.4 inch screen i would be able to watch youtube videos for example (if i connect a device to the car), or is just for movies. i dont ever plan on watching a dvd in the car, but if there are other forms of video playback on the 8.4 inch screen available then i would be interested in it

So how does it drive as compared to your E200 that you had?

Permissible data carriers
  • CD-R, CD-A and CD-RW
  • DVD-R, DVD-V and DVD-RW
  • SD memory card
  • USB storage device
COMAND Online supports the following video formats:
  • DVD-V
  • MPEG
  • WMV
  • M4V
  • AVI up to 720p
Ergo - it requires that the media is available on a stroage device. The online functions include internet radio (tunein), but i cant see youtube support here.

so if i cant watch youtube videos then the only thing that sounds useful to me in the entire multimedia package is the comand navigation. you said the graphics are better and navigation is as well. but is that enough to justify the 2700 dollar cost?

ive never had navigation in a car and always wanted it for the convenience.

is the audio 20 good enough?

out of the 4 features in the multi media package, i do NOT need:
-sirius traffic and weather
-rear view camera (i can get this as a standalone option)
-the larger, better screen (this is a shame, but i think i can live with it)

thats 3 out of 4. the comand navigation system is the only reason i can think of to keep this $2700 dollar option. are there any other incentives to keep this package i might not know about?

The maps are better looking and faster to recalculate routes. But other than that, the Garmin maps are more than adequate.

The only thing I concern about is if Carplay has to work with command system. If it does, I def will get the multimedia pack.

FWIW, I've had my W205 for almost 3 months now and YouTube does indeed work if you have the expensive COMAND Online package. Funny how often I've used it while waiting for ppl in the car

Just a tiny detail which I'm not sure you care about, but the 8.4 inch screen comes with edge to edge glass but the 7 inch screen doesn't - it'll look the same as the CLA screen with the plastic bezel.

In the pics the COMAND has large black bezel all the way around. It might be covered with glass, but nonetheless, wasted area.
I have had mine for more than a month, and I don't miss Comand any longer.
Earlier the main reason to get Comand was that you got the full map, while in audio 50 etc you only got arrows showing the way.

IMHO, if you can live without video and YouTube videos while standing still, go for Garmin and invest that money in some other goodies for the car ie keyless go/memory package/pre safe or the full driver assistance package.

megaoctane can you confirm for me if the 8.4 inch comand screen and the 7 inch screen share the same menu interface? is the 3d view of the car only for the 8.4 inch screen? are the menus different at all? thanks

Menu style is the same for all but the maps. You don't get Mercedes apps and comand style maps. You get the garmin maps with garmin interface.
The comand maps are visually better, but the garmin maps get the job done and then some.
If you use navigation occasionally, the garmin is more than enough. Use money on other goodies. On the other hand, if you regularly drive to unknown addresses (being a salesperson, delivery service or a pimp) then invest in comand
