Realistic expectation of discounts?
Just wondering what the realistic expectation of any discounts being that this is the first model year of a totally new redesign? What kind of discounts are most of you folks getting?

3%, extended warranty at cost, plus I have a $500 coupon from Mercedes from the Detroit auto show.

Personally I won't expect real discounts until at least early 2015 then again we are talking about a car with avg price around 50k not a mass market 20k car so who knows. Would have been awesome if Audi had released redesigned A4 at same time, now delayed to 2016 model year.

UK buyer here. I've never paid sticker price for a new car (even scrounged a token discount on a new Boxster once) and wasn't about to buy the new C Class without getting something off, regardless of how much it was in demand. Was told no by the dealers in my city and the next closest city. In the end I enquired at a dealer who was based in a smaller town and, I assumed, didn't have the demand that the large dealers might be getting. Sure enough he was totally receptive to offering a discount and I got 2k off the price and £700 toward the finance deal. Ironically he was part of the same group as the city dealers and when one of them called me up and I told him I'd done my deal elsewhere, he wanted to match the offer. I told him no the other guy had done the leg work and deserved the sale. He had his chance and blew it.
There's the price set by the manufacturer which includes their profit then there's the price which we pay which is the difference between the manufactures price and whatever the dealer can stomach to give away from his margin based on projected sales. It's a game to be played.

While I'm hoping they offer discounts I'm not expecting much...when the CLA was first released they were offering $500 - $1000. I anticipate the same on the new C...especially during the first 90 days or so...

That's what my dealers said, until I found an offer, then they expect you to come back to them and let them match it. They might be shifing loads but salesmen hate to loose out on a sale. They know there's a chance they're missing out on selling you your next MB and the next and... Stick to your guns.
In the UK we have car brokers who are able to offer discounts because they can search the entire dealer network and have big buying power. This lets them offer discounts even when the dealer says no. The irony is these brokers might be getting the deal from the same group who own your local dealer who said no. Isn't there a similar system in the US?

Depending on dealer overhead cost & location expecting a discount on a new model for a product with brand strength is not realistic. If you do get a discount you can be pretty well assured that it was built into the initial offer price anyway.

the funny thing is that living in Southern California, this dealer I asked knows that there are at least 10 MB dealers within half hour drive for people in this area.
