Space saver spare wheel
#26
I'm really not sure if you will fit "Space Saver" under the floor & get the floor to sit flat with it in there. The area measurements are 510mm x 510mm with stepped depth of 130mm & other 130mm. hopefully the picture will make more sense.
Remember my vehicle is a Estate, the Sedan dimensions maybe different.

JC ~ the wagon has more underfloor space than the sedan. The SA tech team is investigating if there is any way to redesign the composit insert to accommodate some sort of underfloor spare. Uninflated SLK type solution might work. Let's see. They believe lack of a spare is costing sales here with our wide open spaces much like Aus.

My sedan looks the same as your estate. My measurements were ~21.5 inches each way. That rectangle in the upper right corner is a fuse box. It is the limiting factor. Even if you remove the molding, the fuse box looks like it can't be moved. The spare tire sold by MB in other markets is 26.5 inches in diameter, or 673mm. My rough measurements, we are short 163mm or ~6.5 inches in each direction. So if you were to try get something in there, it would have to be collapsible. FYI, the collapsible spare in my mom's SLK is 21.5 inches in width. Not sure of the rim size, or inflated size though. Haven't had time to look myself.

Nuk,
Thanks for taking the time to send the photos & measurements.
This seems to be a silly attempt by MB to do away with the full sized spare when it been so easily to design a well which would fit a full sized spare or a bloody plastic box. Obviously a apprentice draftsman was put in charge of this.
Glad to hear that there is thought being put into remedying the error in SA Glyn.
A new plastic form mould might just fit around that fuse box Rusty.

I did buy a used Mercedes spare on Ebay, that was sized at 135/80-R17. It was from an 06-09 CLK. The rim looked the same as the above, and like it would fit my large front caliper. (I have the Sports package, which I think has larger front calipers? and cross drilled rotors) When it arrives, I will update this thread.
For those interested in the tire source, it is NOT from a CLK. It is actually from a 2010-2015 E Class Coupe or Cabriolet (C207 or A207).

Just to update, the Mercedes 135/80-R17 minispare I bought on Ebay fits perfectly, and clears the front rotor. I also picked up a W204 C Class spare tool set, and am all sorted for my next puncture for under $150.

I'm holding thumbs that East London can produce a modified tray for W205.

My Mercedes tire storage/tie down bag finally arrived from South Africa today. So I am finally set up like I wanted. The bag was the most expensive part of the whole package!

GLC Coupe, 250d AMG Line, Premium Plus, Night Pack.
Something else to consider, apparently goop works on over 90% of punctures. Also Dynaplug can be used for larger holes where up to 3 seals can can be used. With these you have an over 90% chance of getting home or to a tyre fitter. Where there's concern over tyre availability then carry a spare tyre for the tyre fitter to fit, this costs less than a spare wheel, weighs less and takes up less space in your boot.

You can buy an AMG wheel for $749 as a spare which is exactly what I did.

Sources of W205 wheel and tire
Hi Got a runflat that didn't like a bit of shoddy roadworks - still got air in but a bulge.
Want to get to have a real wheel to match car, use the injured runflat as a spare, any clues where can I get a wheel and 225/40 -19 Conti SSR MOE, shippable to New Zealand?
Lucked out in NZ, Aus or elsewhere maybe? I'll get the wheel part no and offset codes later and post that too.
Thx, Greg

Nah, not about to mix tyre brands - was going to do 2 new non-RF on front, but laws dont allow, whole car must be RF or not. Better wear these out first. I do 1000km a week, so wont take forever, esp on 280 Treadwear index. :}
Glynn how did the tyre in estate boot idea go? Not looking too good in my 2016 one, think may be better to go for a blow up out of an SL or something maybe. In which case don't need a wheel either.

Hi, I kept my space-saver spare wheel from my previous C180K (2014) which looks exactly the same as the picture in https://www.thewheelshop.co.uk/merce...cover-bag.html
It is a 125/90R16. According that website, this should fit C-class between 2012 and 2017.
However, Merline1's spare wheel is different size. I appreciate if someone can confirm I got the right spare wheel.

Hi, I got my old Mercedes space-save spare wheel (125/90R16) out last weekend to line up with my existing C200 AMG Line (225/45R18 Front & 245/40R18 Rear). The space-saver wheel is pretty much the same height and the bolt holes looks compatible. I will jack it up and put it on next weekend to have a short run. Hopefully it will be good enough as a spare wheel. Anyone has any comment?

So instead I bought a used Mercedes spare on Ebay, that is sized at 135/80-R17. It was from an 09-13 E class coupe. This is the same size as the stock W205 spare available overseas (but not in the USA), and it fits over my larger front caliper. (I have the Sports package, which I think has larger front calipers and cross drilled rotors than the non sport)

If SA come up with a space saver solution for the W205 do you think it would cover all wheel sizes and are 19 " wheels common there as they are here in Aust?
Regards

The W204 C Class spare is a 125/90-R16. While it cleared my rear brake caliper, I could not get it on my front. Plus it is 24.9 inches, and my 18 inch tires are 26 inches. The 135/80-R17 is 25.5 inches.
