C Class C220 BlueTec Estate W205, AMG Premium Plus
Chirping/Cricket Noise in car

Hi all,

I picked up a C220 AMG Sport Premium Plus Estate (Wagon in the US & Europe) in Mid oct. Never owned a Mercedes before and just love driving it. Even my Jaguar loving brothers like it!

Anyway...the car is perfect apart from a slight rattling noise which I think is coming from the area above the headlight switch where the heads up display and driving assist package buttons would be. I've spoken to the dealer and I need to arrange to take it in and have it checked.

What I did notice the other day was the sound of what sounds like a cricket (the insect) in the car. It comes and goes though.

Normally I don't hear any of this as I have the music up loud (it would a shame not to use the decent sound system after all), but I turned it off as I just wanted to drive and heard both noises.

Anyone got any idea?

I've had a similar situation in an old C class and the issue was a blower motor fan bearing being bad. Seems pretty soon for something like that to be going wrong though.

On my old BMW E46 it was the blower fan for the electrical box in the engine bay. Apparently it took in cold air from the cabin, and that made a cricket sound. Not sure if MB uses the same on the C.

It can be many things. Blower fan is on the passenger side. Tell the dealer to fix it.

Have you checked to see if there is a cricket living in your dashboard?

So had it checked by the dealership...they seem to think its something to do with the Keyless Go function and the Sat Nav/Comand system.
When they tested other Keyless Go C class cars they had the same noise.
I've gotta say...I'm not convinced

The car has also been back to the dealers twice for the rattling noise, and although they said they have fixed it, I haven't driven the car since they returned it...

Oh and when they "cleaned it" before returning it to me, they managed to scratch the hell out of it. This is after I spent two days detailing it and hand polishing it!....Not happy!

Good grief - do hope not!!!!!

PS If they've scratched your car then they should bloody well sort it. I must say I always tell them I don't want the car washed - having seen some of the reprobates that are carrying out the "washing"....

Yeah! I won't let them clean my car without me being present & I won't let them touch the interior. 3 generations of Benz ownership back they scratched every piece of wood in the car with a vacuum nozzle. Only 5000Km's on the car & MBSA had to replace ALL the wood. The factory rep was pissed.
