I have it and am actively looking to replace it, fingerprints like crazy. Emailed my dealer yesterday.

Let us know what you find out about replacing it. Hopefully the clock is plug and play.

Right now we love it. But, I could see that changing when we get tired of removing fingerprints.

There's another thread on here that I started about changing it over, because I don't like it either.

The guy on there answered and said that the parts alone would cost €1,000 and then you have to create a custom wiring loom because the wiring isn't present unless they've installed it at the factory.

I was a bit disappointed.

I love the look of the wood, but wish they had used a semi-gloss finish on it. It shows scratches and smudges easily, but I like it much better than the high gloss black trim.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the Gloss Black & Aluminum Trim console. If you are, be aware that it is made of plastic, not wood, according to my dealer. By the time I realized this, it was too late to change my order.

I have gloss in my E-Class now - I hate it. That is why I ordered the Black Ash Open Pore Wood. That is a deal breaker for me.

Have the linden wood gloss trim. While it wasn't my favorite, the open pore versions in stock did not have as many other options as I was looking for. While I prefer the open pore black ash wood, my concern would actually be that it will not hold up as well as the linden wood. Open pore would open itself up to stains for example. In addition, while it won't show fingerprints right now, I was concerned longerterm about when natural oils from my hands and other products would show up (and be permanent vs. smudge marks which can be wiped down). The linden wood trim to me doesn't have the "newness" factor of open pore wood but I think over time would remain classy. As I own this rather than lease it (so will hold onto it for 7-10 years), these were the factors that led me to the linden wood trim.

My loaner has the black gloss trim and I think it looks cheap and crappy.

I think it's beautiful actually. Nicest wood trim I've seen. I love it!

Wow - a lot of thought went into that. No cars at all had the Open Pore Wood on the dealer's lot, so that is why I ordered my car exactly the way I wanted it. I have no kids, and I have never spilled anything in my cars, so I don't worry about the stains. I guess time will tell how it holds up for me...

Personally I have hated glossy wood trim since it was first introduced in the US markets decades ago. Most of the time it looks cheap and tacky to me. I'm not just talking about Mercedes here, but all cars. I will admit the Mercedes linden is one of the nicest versions of glossy wood trim I've seen and i do think it looks nice, but not as nice as the open pore ash.

There's just something about glossy wood trim in cars that makes me think of the classless american masses that value flash over substance.

I like the Blask Ash but thought it looked out of place in a Mercedes so I went with Linden Wood and so far I'm very happy with my decision. It doesn't smudge anymore/less than any other glossy wood trim I've ever experienced so I don't know what the fuss is all about.

Last week I got a ride home with the manager of my local independent Mercedes repair shop. The car was a W211 E-class with that narrow, but beautifully curved strip of wood across the entire width of the dash, meeting with the wood of the doors. The effect is to encircle the front seat occupants with a band of wood.
I praised this use of wood and then complained that the Toyota Corolla LE belonging to one of the elderly tenants in my apartment building has as much wood and in about the same places as does my 2007 C-class (W203). The manager replied, with a grin, "But is it real?" I replied, "Hard to tell." He concluded, "Other car makers try to make their fake wood look like real wood; Mercedes makes their real wood look like fake wood."

The open pore is a new spin on the wood trim (as far a I know), and it was compelling initially. At the end of the day though, either option looked great to me. The linden wood glossy looks sharp and timeless. The open pore looks great, and is a fresh take.

I love seeing the wood grains so black don't do much for me. In addition, I am concern if open pores would discolored over time. Wish there is semi gloss option as others had posted.

Oh crap.. 5 months of waiting and now just 2 weeks out from delivery, I just got my VIN, did a decode and cross-checked against what I ordered. All looks OK, except one item. One of my codes lists (H24,TRIM PIECES – WOOD FENG BROWN – FINELINE). The H24 trim was the lime wood high gloss. I ordered H09,Brown Ash Open-Pore (it's specifically listed on my sales invoice). Fingers crossed it may just be an error and everything works out as it's supposed to, but any advice on how to tackle this with the dealer if I find that the car is not how I ordered it?

Is it an easy fix for a dealer to replace the trim from high gloss wood to the open pore?
