BUT, not as bad as turning an S500 or C250 into an AMG model, so its all good since MB is "sorta" putting AMG badges on this thing from the factory (front) , so YOU can't be accused of being a poseur!!
Given that the C450 AWD performance will be close (or better??) to a C63 in the wet, I'd say "its fair to say" that you could badge this as an AMG. (wait till the Eurocharged guys get a hold of that tune) . Can you say 450 HP or more in an AWD sedan? In addition, the current C400 AWD is running neck and neck in performance to the CLA45 AMG, so this new C450 AMG Sport being quicker and faster than a CLA45 will certainly earn its stripes as an AMG.

You can't badge anything. The badges come from the factory. If the company wanted to badge the C450 as an AMG, they would. But they won't. Because it isn't. An AMG.

It's not that the C400 wasn't good enough, the C450 is just a natural evolution. The extra horsepower is just one of the upgrades. All the magazines said the C400 wasn't properly balanced for spirited driving, and it looks as if many of the upgrades have to do with making the car handle and brake better.
Regarding the published 0-60 time for the C450.... I wouldn't put too much stock in that number. Mercedes underestimated the C400 by half a second and they've probably done the same with the C450.

the 0-60 is not accurate and in any case not a good measure of sporty feel. this is a C class that will drive like the audi s4/335 Mperformance and exactly what mercedes needs to compete in that segment.

Looking for a 2003 S55 AMG!!

I like the S55 AMG so much, that I want another one. Preferably like the 01 I have. The 03's came with a supercharger (493 hp) compared to my 355hp NA engine. Does anyone have or know someone trying to sell that year model? I saw one in Colorado, but it has been sold. Also, how can I start a thread!!!??? I want to start a thread on the best way to lower the s55 with ABC still intact! That's the final project. I researched online about some lowering links, but would like some feedback. I know it's not the same as lowering my 93 mustang...lol.

its and AMG package with some tuning done to the c400's engine,suspension and exhaust that AMG handled for MB
remember that a true 100% AMG has the engine built by one man, one engine and thats the philosophy, then you'll see the AMG plate on the engine cover..

It basically puts justification behind all the people that slap AMG badges on their non AMG cars. Heck, even after the 20k mods I put on my 230, I was even considering painting over my AMG calipers, after I did the 030 brake upgrade.
At the price point, I'd even venture to say that I would ask them to downgrade all the parts to not say AMG, so that it wouldn't dilute the brand.

MB needs to take care of quality problems first
MB has already screwed the pooch by dropping the overbuilding of the most reliable cars on the planet in favor of the quick buck. No need to build an AMG light to further push Mercedes Benz (only the best?) toward the KIA and Toyota brands. If you are going to build cars that cost as much as a house make them worth the money. I love mine, even though it is in the shop right now getting a new gas tank and fuel pumps and fuel filters on an extended warranty. I'm lucky, but don't make it a habit of making pricey cars that are wonderful until the warranty runs out...DON'T GO THERE MERCEDES, MAKE THE BEST or don't make anything..

I've owned both AMGs and run of the mill Benzes, and currently drive a E350 Sport and ML350 4Matic. My opinion is that AMG should be reserved for the hand-built drivetrains, and that the AMG aesthetic treatment should be a "sport package" or some other nomenclature. Just my $.02.

I really dislike this latest trend ... those A class with front wheel drive are not Mercedes and those "AMG Sport Line" are the result of a stupid copy-cat trend to BMW and their M sport line!
I have 4 Mercedes and Im really pissed at MB right now.. This may be the last MB I purchase.

I totally understand the alienation thing but I guess they're just interested in volume sales. The thing is though, to the average car punter the new "Mercedes C450 AMG Sport" does have more of a ring to it than the new "Mercedes C450".
I did read somewhere that the reason Mercedes are so keen to push the AMG tag is to cash in on their Motorsport and performance branding with the total domination of Mercedes in F1 now.
The c450 is meant to be the start of a whole new line of cars that will carry this "AMG Sport" moniker so I think it's here to stay.

Asking myself... "Do I care if MB puts an AMG badge on a car without anything AMG in it except for the label?" I thought, "95% of my friends who ride in my AMG's have no clue as to what lurks under the hood, nor would they care" It's funny really, most people wouldn't care even if I took the time to explain it to them, so I never do. I have two AMG's for me, for my enjoyment driving them, not as some kind of status symbol. These models with the AMG sticker on the trunk are for the Mercedes sales man to take a few extra bucks out the the pocket of people with cash to burn. Few will have any clue why they are paying a few thousand for a badge... that will be up to creative car salesmen to come up with. More power to them, I don't care if people want to buy AMG stickers and put them on their garden variety Mercedes, it doesn't affect me at all.
