Would people please stop posting in this thread unless they have something relevant to say about the topic? Geez this badging debate is absurd.

ON POINT: I connected with the GM of a local dealership here in LA who says he expects to see a C450 on the floor in April.... this was surprisingly soon to me, especially given we still haven't seen pricing or ordering materials.

I feel MOST of these people probably came from riced-out Civics/Eclipses, etc. beforehand....I don't see why one would buy either of these cars over a higher AMG/M model with the exception of pricing.

So, no.....the C63 is not poser-ish in the way a CLA45 is, but it's certainly closer to that group than it is to the group of cars that are the E63/CLS63/SL63/CL/S, etc. The C63 is a great car to people because it's less expensive and has the same power as the higher models. Other than that, it's a C-Class....and it's just not comparable to the models above it. Would you rather have a C63 or a nicely equipped E550? I think most people would take the E550. I think the AMG/M designations aren't what they used to be anyways because you can pay $3k to remap a 550 AMG sport or 550 M sport package model and it's going to be as fast as the AMG/M model for $40k less (and they will look the same with the exception of the quad pipes). This wasn't the case 10 years ago.

I'll take a C63. To your point, however, the prior C63 felt interior material-wise to the higher end models, as it should be. I think the new C63 will be much more reflective of the AMG brand.

I don't get your $40K difference, though, unless you meant $4k. Either way, a reflash may make a 550 faster, but it will not be the overall package any AMG is, minus the CLA 45.

I don't mind the existence of the c450 at all or the naming of it as amg sport. Many here seem to be really bothered by it and likely a smaller few are actually losing sleep when their thumbs are not tapping out numerous inflated opinions on this forum via their iPhones

Cars like this c450 however tend to support dooshbaggery in general ... Take this pic for instance

That's a good deal earlier than I'd expected too! When I put down a deposit on the C450, my dealer said they were expecting to see some preliminary training materials in April and that they'd probably see the C450 pop up in their ordering system around June. Beyond that, they were guessing production would begin in June or July and the first cars would hit dealer lots in August or September. They had no guesses about pricing or options, so we just drew up a wild-guess order modeled on the C400 ordering guide. It was probably a pointless exercise, but it felt good! They'll be contacting me whenever more details become available so we can keep refining the order and have it ready to enter into the system as soon as the buttons activate. I'll post anything/everything up here whenever any of those interesting details trickle out.

Thanks, I'll look forward to hearing about it... the GM I spoke with is going to let me spec the first C450 he can get his hands on and give me a free option on it before he sells it to anybody else. I'm skeptical of his timing but he is a VERY high volume benz dealer and is usually pretty well tuned in.

Sounds like we've got a similar arrangement at our dealers, but I wouldn't begin to describe my dealer as large. Chances are, your's may have a better line to the factory, so please post anything you discover as well. There are bound to be plenty of us watching/waiting!

Yes we do!!!

BUT, not as bad as turning an S500 or C250 into an AMG model, so its all good since MB is "sorta" putting AMG badges on this thing from the factory (front) , so YOU can't be accused of being a poseur!!

Given that the C450 AWD performance will be close (or better??) to a C63 in the wet, I'd say "its fair to say" that you could badge this as an AMG. (wait till the Eurocharged guys get a hold of that tune) . Can you say 450 HP or more in an AWD sedan? In addition, the current C400 AWD is running neck and neck in performance to the CLA45 AMG, so this new C450 AMG Sport being quicker and faster than a CLA45 will certainly earn its stripes as an AMG.

Nah, no AMG badges whatsoever. However, does the license plate frame count?

That's great news. Hopefully it will hit the UK soon too. I'm quite excited that it may hit the market sooner than some articles have speculated...

No, I mean $40k. For instance, once could get a 550i M-Sport for $70k new. You can remap the ECU for $3k and have the same power as the M5 (which is going to be $105-115k new). Same with a CLS550 versus a CLS63.

Maybe I think you fools who lease high-end cars are posers. I can understand a C300, but what about leases of S63's, E63's, etc. I now many posers who lease high-end vehicles who can't even write it off. In fact, they can't even afford it if they purchased. They give the excuse they don't like to be locked to a car, but technically, they still pay the interest and depreciation of the vehicle. Posers I tell you.
I get it, you are probably a 17 year old kid who spent his entire summer savings cutting grass on your 2003 S4. First off, 99% of these people who lease these cars can write it off. You probably work for the man lining his pockets, though. Second off, why would one buy a car for $130k cash? You then put 3k miles on it and have already lost $35k in depreciation (which for me, 3k miles can be one month of driving). Or, I can lease and pay $1,500/month for, say, 24 months....meaning I pay $36k out of pocket over 2 years. At the same time, I have $100k extra in my bank account (because I leased) to invest over those 2 years....and making 7-8% per year....now I've made $15k back in 2 years (meaning in reality I've only spent $21k on the car lease).....as opposed to driving the car for 2 years, putting 25k miles on it, and now the car is worth $75k (meaning I've lost almost $60k in 2 years if I would have bought).

Then again, though, that's why you probably cut lawns all summer long.

Seriously dude? People on this site are super annoying. I can't believe that its worse here than even the BMW sites. Probably the biggest surprise of exploring benz ownership. And you do realize there are plenty of holes to be poked in the argument you posted above right? Based on the person/situation I can make perfectly logical arguments for buying and for leasing.

Didn't say leasing is the best option for everyone. I was replying to the moronic comment that people who lease high-end cars can't afford them.

Buy cars for what they are, not because of what the "forums" are like. Your statement also proves my earlier point.....those owning an E90 and looking at a C-Class are going to be the same type of people on either message board. Not sure why you would expect differently. A C-Class owner isn't anymore "high-class" than a E90 or Lexus IS owner. It's the same demographic.

By the way, the mods are the very ones you should be blaming. MBWorld had a link to this very thread yesterday on the homepage with the title "Is Mercedes’ AMG Sport Line for Posers??" Obvious clickbait.......which MBWorld has been doing quite a bit recently. That's how this thread got way off topic. I guess they have to drum up some talk in the forums besides Don Nguyen roof vinyl wrap and wheel posts by sponsors....which literally take up 80% of the new CLS message board.
