2017 C43 Coupe
why do so many people have their panties in a bunch over this? bmw does the same with their m235 and m135. it's not a big deal, this car is meant to sell and amg is a brand, there is nothing wrong with adding badges and sh*t to it from the factory. now if i had a c300 and badged it to a c63, that's totally different, the c400 is a great car and i can only imagine how much better the c63 and 63s will be. this is meant to bridge the gap between the two and provide something more than the c400 with sport package for those who can't afford a c63.

MOST people that buy amg's are NOT on online forums... and I would venture to guess that MOST people that buy amg's do not have their panties in a bunch over this.

Typically, the most enthusiastic and passionate auto lovers will frequent forums, and they can be some of the most opinionated of all owners.

Same difference between an Audi S-Line package on an A3, A4 and A5 vs an S3, S4 and S5....the former being cosmetic, the latter a true performance lineup but still not the level of their RS models. Way too many people are confusing an AMG styling pkg on the C lineup with the new AMG Sport lineup of which the C450 is a member.

Instead of calling out the C450 as a poser, IMO the admins and mods on this forum should be educating the MB community on this difference...and it's significance to MB, AMG and enthusiasts who want more than just cosmetics but less than the hardcore performance of a proper AMG. That's the C450's niche. It's not a poser.
Exactly,...

How about a C45 AMG?

I wonder if they could have come out with a true C45 AMG.. that would have deserved an AMG badge at the rear. Most powerful 4 cylinder production engine with 360 HP, it would have still been at par with the V6 they are putting in now.

Lol, that's a funny picture of the Honda. That's cool they messed with those too. After all, AMG did start out as a tuning company and not part of MB.

You know what I say though, screw the new models, I want this!

Let's be honest, MB and BMW is all about selling cars. Personally, I think most of the entry level AMG models (CLA45, etc.) are poser-ish, too. I really don't look at those as real AMG models the same way as a SL63 or S63. They really shouldn't be making anything in AMG form less than the E63. AMG's and M's used to be rare....now, not so much.

Are you saying the C63 is a poser-ish amg and isn't a real AMG? What a joke.

Meh, the M3 and C63 have a niche demographic (and the M3 is in a different category, IMHO, because it is one of the original sportscars...talking E30 M3). The demographic is pretty much younger people...hence the pricing. I would think it is weird to see someone above 30 years old in either of those two cars and I rarely do. I feel MOST of these people probably came from riced-out Civics/Eclipses, etc. beforehand....I don't see why one would buy either of these cars over a higher AMG/M model with the exception of pricing.

So, no.....the C63 is not poser-ish in the way a CLA45 is, but it's certainly closer to that group than it is to the group of cars that are the E63/CLS63/SL63/CL/S, etc. The C63 is a great car to people because it's less expensive and has the same power as the higher models. Other than that, it's a C-Class....and it's just not comparable to the models above it. Would you rather have a C63 or a nicely equipped E550? I think most people would take the E550. I think the AMG/M designations aren't what they used to be anyways because you can pay $3k to remap a 550 AMG sport or 550 M sport package model and it's going to be as fast as the AMG/M model for $40k less (and they will look the same with the exception of the quad pipes). This wasn't the case 10 years ago.

so an AMG is only an AMG when its expensive and driven by older people seems like the snob of snobs is coming out of the woodwork.

Personally, I would choose a C63 black series over any well equipped E-Class, CLS-Class, and even some S-Classes. It's all subjective to the user really.

Wow, is that what the C450 is up against? Even the C63 isn't really an AMG? Time to exit gracefully but it's unfortunate because most everyone on the W205 forum have been really good to chat with. Enthusiast forums have been an excellent supplement to the ownership experience for me the past couple of decades no matter what car I've owned. But man, some of these AMG people are brutal. Oh well, onwards......

No, a CLA45 or C63 can be driven by an older person and I won't pay it any attention all the same. Don't cry about it, it's my opinion. AMG and the M name are prestigious names....I feel they do it a disservice by sticking it on their entry level models just to sell cars (which the C class was until they started coming out with even lower entry level stuff). Most people would rather have a bare bones E class over a fully-loaded C-class. You can put a sheep in wolf's clothing...it's still a sheep.

Why do people buy C-class AMG's over any other AMG? Please tell me.

Also, the point about a black series C63 or even the older CLK Black Series is not relevant. The C63 Black is $130k.....more than most any of those models and is intended on being a super rare car. It's like a GTR, it's meant to be a super race car....but has little to no value for anything else.

The difference between a C350 coupe and a C63 coupe is day and night, and that is one reason someone would buy a C63 Coupe as differences between a CLS550 and a CLS63 isn't as much, and the same can be said about the E63 and S63.

IMO C63 is the cream of the crop, and the rest of AMG's lineup (excluding the specialized cars such as SLS and GT-S) are delicious upgrades.

If you drive an E550 4Matic and a E63 S back to back, you will notice the differences, however they're very similar, even-though they're very different, however going from a C350 to a C63, you won't believe that they're both C-class cars.

This difference of-course isn't just going from a V6 to a V8, it's a whole package. AMG had A LOT more to enhance on the base C-class than they did with the E, CLS, S and SL.

I personally don't mind the C450 AMG Sport as it is fully named as Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG Sport 4Matic (holy sh*t that's a long *** name), and the new AMG cars are named Mercedes-AMG C63 S, etc...

I tend to de-badge all my cars so to an uninitiated eye my C63 looks just like another run-of-the-mill C-class and so does my S4, so to all the "Badgers", go ahead and badge your C250 with an AMG Blackseries, the worst part is that you still know you're driving a normal C-class (there is nothing wrong with a normal C-class as it is still a Mercedes, but it's not an AMG), and the added badge might be making your car slower as it's added weight. LOL

Hard to say if that's really true. Other than prestige factor, which I don't care about, the E350 has zero advantages over my C400 IMO. The C400 is lighter, faster, has more horse power, handles better and has the nicer interior. Not to mention the C400 comes standard with LED lighting which would not be on a bare bones E class. And the C400 has the better sound system by far. Also, I prefer a smaller car for it's nimble handling. The E350 sacrifices handling for comfort and rear legroom. I also prefer the exterior appearance of the C400 to the E350. In pretty much every way the C400 beats a bare bones E class for me. Rather than be a no brainer as you suggest I'd really question the wisdom of picking the Bare bones E over a loaded C.

Maybe I think you fools who lease high-end cars are posers. I can understand a C300, but what about leases of S63's, E63's, etc. I now many posers who lease high-end vehicles who can't even write it off. In fact, they can't even afford it if they purchased. They give the excuse they don't like to be locked to a car, but technically, they still pay the interest and depreciation of the vehicle. Posers I tell you.

I got behind this bit of gloriousness earlier.

It's a GLK250 "AMG Bluetec 4Matic". A double rebadge. Just as silly as all of this stupid arguing by a bunch of butthurt AMG fanboys.

At the end of the day, the design and body--It's still a C-CLASS. The fact that they built a blackseries supercar from a C-CLASS design tells you a lot about the class itself.

An excellent point, sir

mjr24 has a point about MB selling cars. It is after all, a business. They're just broadening their market and there is a car for everyone.

But that's exactly the point of the quoted post. You've got several options to choose from depending on your individual driving style and opinions.

If you want a nice, spacious, luxury vehicle with comfort, buy an S-class. If you also want that and an added performance boost and some extra features, buy an S-class AMG. If you want something smaller and more nimble, maybe go with a C-class or C AMG if you need the performance. I could go on and on and on but the point being not everybody needs (or rather not every should as there are some horrible drivers out there) the performance of an AMG. Nor does everyone need the extra luxury options as some people are content just driving a normal car.

Questioning why someone would get a C-class AMG I'm not sure where that came from...I love my C55. It's small enough that the handling is incredible and even moreso now with the Bilstein coilovers, however it's still got an incredible amount of power for its size. Sure, it doesn't have as many of the fancy features of an E- or S-class, but I don't really need all of that. Not to mention it's that many more things that can go wrong and I'll need to repair. This car is also surprisingly easy to work on, which is important for me as I am an enthusiast who enjoys doing his own work on the car. And it's not so new that it has so many electronics and other thingswhat would prohibit me from being able to do a lot of things to it, but that's another issue...

We can talk about posers all day, but frank69m pretty much sums it all up; basically live within your means with whatever car you can afford. That applies to ALL of the models, AMG or not.

Another excellent point.

I find it funny how huge of a debate badging can turn into...as if putting the AMG badge on the car gives you a gain of 40hp...

Which is a funny story in itself, when I was a senior in high school my buddy and I told a freshman dude that if you put racing stripes or flame decals on your car you can gain about 15hp and he was like "really??"

C450 (pre-ordered Jan 14)
This whole thread is really disappointing. I’m one of those buyers who’s never bought a Mercedes before, but who just might be cutting a check for a C450 this summer/fall. I’ve already been to my local dealer to put down a deposit. For me, it’s one of only two options on the market for a beautifully designed, all-wheel-drive, performance oriented mid-sized sedan, with all the creature comforts I enjoy.

To be blunt, I’m not considering a C450 to prove anything to anyone, or to wrap myself up in an AMG costume so I can trick anyone into thinking I drive a full blown AMG. Besides, anyone who’d be fooled, by definition, wouldn't know what an AMG is, so why would it do any good to impress them anyway?

But that’s not really the main point of my reply here. My main disappointment with this thread is the pompous reaction of some people who wail about the indignity of having to contend with “posers” who’d dare to drive a car that sports the letters AMG (albeit with the little word “sport” right nearby). We've all heard it said that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Why wouldn't an AMG owner feel a sense of pride that others, perhaps others who haven’t been as financially fortunate as most AMG owners have been, might actually aspire to be like them?

To “some”, it’s clearly all about money; who’s got it, who doesn't, and who wants to make certain that the little possessions they flash around will make it crystal clear to anyone within eye-shot, which side of that financial fence they’re on. It’s not enough to know they've got more money than anyone else in the crowd, everyone in the crowd must be made aware of it too, or there’s no pride to be had.

“Oh my God, might someone think that a little pee-on can afford a car like mine? I can’t live with the injustice and shame this brings to me and all my progeny. If Mercedes starts slapping AMG badges on “unworthy” (translation: attainable) cars, how will we ever hold our heads up straight when the janitor at the country club shows up in a car with the letters AMG? These upstarts need to mind their place.”

I suspect that the typical C450 buyer will be purchasing the car because they truly like the car. It suits them in a way that other alternatives don’t. To be honest though, I’m sure we’ve all met someone who fits the profile of that poser who’d definitely try to pass off his C450 as a real AMG. He’s also the guy who’ll talk loudly and flash a fake Rolex at the bar and always make sure the Mercedes logo on his key is face-up when he slaps it down on the table. Why can’t we just laugh at these people? Why let them bother you? If you laugh, they’ll provide you with hours of enjoyment; believe me I know…. I went to high school with one and he’s still doing these kinds of things 30 years later. (And he thinks no one notices!) It’s positively hilarious.

Congrats and welcome to the world of MB, I hope you enjoy the brand as much as many of us have.

Your last paragraph is on point. While a snob who has everything can be quite a douche, it's even worse when someone who doesn't have everything plays it off like they do.
