Door Lock Pins why?

As I admired the interior of my C I was wondering why Mercedes still has door lock pins. They seem to serve no purpose. have you tried pulling up on one to unlock a door - not happening. They are pretty slick. So wonder why they still have them. If its to let you know if the car is locked or unlocked a little red led in its place would be so much nicer cleaner and more modern too.
Also when locked how come they don't go flush? Or are they supposed to and mine just don't?

No big deal, just was on my curious mind.

Thanks

Agreed ... I much prefer the style in most cars these days including my Acura and Infiniti... In the door handle cup is a small lever that's easy popped open or closed

Have no idea what the point of the Benz door pins is

They are there so that they stick into your elbow when you're driving with your arm out the window

Seriously though it's probably only a legacy way of visually spotting when a door is locked. Seems pointless.

Agreed.. little details like that irk me more than they really should. I would not have minded the rectangular metal pins that the newest CLS have. They just look pointless and cheap on the C. (First world problems)

Are there metal door lock pins as a purchasable 'upgrade"?

I was wondering the same thing. In Canada they don't have them. Would be cool to change them or not have them at all and put something better and modern.

The UK accessories brochure has a stainless steel "AMG door pin" listed - part number A000 766 0228 - see page 44.

It's a simple visual confirmation of the lock/unlock status of the car. It doesn't bother me in the least ... in fact, I'm glad they are there and often look at them to make sure the car is locked..

+1^ ~ that is exactly why they are there & traditionally, other than US destined cars, have not even had a knob on them.

My old W203.

I look at my wing mirrors to see if I remembered to lock it, they fold in when locked. Is this standard in all C's?

My eyes are not that good to see the doorpins, thats why I love the foldings mirrors to tell me so

If you want to replace the standard pins have a look at our German friends: http://www.motor-talk.de/bilder/diy-...207593278.html

I look at the mirrors as well for visual confirmation. My windows are tinted so would be hard to see the pins also I'm usually mid way across a parking lot before saying to myself "did I lock it?" so I can see the mirrors are folded so I'm good. But since the pins are there would much prefer the AMG door pins than the plastic.

Anyone ever use the MB app to lock unlock the car?

I turned my mirror folding off (I think it unnecessary unless I am in a tight parking space). And turned on the acoustic lock alarm Now I know when it is locked.

Door Pins

Front door pins are No Problem, grab top of plastic with pliers and pull up and hard on front pins and screw in New pins! Back doors........hmm. Same removal, lower window so you don't break glass! Installation a little different. I had to pull both rear door interior panels and do some manufacturing of door locking device so pins would not stick up 3". Good luck! Mine look nice and I like them in shiny chrome. They lock almost flush and stick up about 3/8" when open! Has the extra Luxury Look as a E550.

I checked with my dealer on the door pins and gave him the part number provided "AMG door pin" listed - part number A000 766 0228 but was told it was for the w204 and would not or could not guarantee they would fit the w205

They're the only way in order to be shure doors are locked as I don't have folding mirrors and the acustic lock alarm doesnt' work if you push the closing button with doors still open (I usually do that)
