new C300 with Engine noise
#126
I had the rebuild and like most of you I was fuming mad. I have to say that I am happy with the outcome (I fought for an extra year warranty after trying to get a buyback in place and my service manager was able to get the extension for me). I reset my transmission yesterday and I have to say the car is running better than ever. I'm just going to enjoy and drive it like I stole it until the warranty expires and just see what happens. I don't think this will be the 10 year car I was hoping for but oh well stuff happens. There is no way merc is going to buy back all of these cars. Make a stink with MBUSA and see what you can get. Then, stop thinking about it because you will make yourselves crazy. Just my 2c

Just found out that I will need to have this engine rebuild. I am appalled! Does anyone have any idea how many cars have this problem? Is MBUSA offering any compensation, perhaps 100K engine warranties after the shop rebuild? I just don't know what to say, so angry! I googled the problem and the only hits I get are to this site. Has the automotive press covered this?

Well, that's loss of use, not depreciation damages. Would you believe me if I pissed on your leg and said it was raining?
Do you really believed a new car with a rebuilt engine won't suffer excess depreciation?

Of course it will. That record will always be with the car and I now have a devalued asset because MB manufactured a defective engine that needed to be rebuilt.

I'd be more comfortable with a crate engine swap from the factory than a dealer rebuild. Certified techs or not. What database would this rework be recorded in? Are mechanical repairs subject to disclosure laws like accident damage?

I asked for a new engine but the repair was my only choice.

I got my car back tonight (they had it for exactly 3 weeks), and I have to say it appears to drive just fine. I'm going to give it a bit more time to evaluate though before I decide what I'm going to do. One thing I noticed right away, after driving the loaner base C300 for 3 weeks, is how much firmer the suspension is on my C300 sport - big difference. But that has nothing to do with this repair. The items they list on the invoice that were replaced is startling though! It really is crazy that a new MB would have to go through this kind of repair! I have to say my dealer, Mercedes Benz of San Diego, has been excellent to deal with. I'm curious to see how this plays out as more and more owners come forward with this issue - and what it does to resale values.

Several main factors in this fiasco. 1) Wrist pin/piston issue is inherent in the engine. how can they sell it , expect consumer to buy it as new and in turn rebuilt it. 2) the car's value will be drastically reduce with this repair on record. 3)longevity and reliability of the engine 4)why MB is not issuing a recall? what about other owners like my brother who is not an enthusiasts - they will never know of the issue and incur great cost when the factory warranty expire.

It is messy. I had to push the issue with my dealer for them to acknowledge the problem. I feel like they are trying to avoid this repair and sweep this under the carpet. And if there is an engineering mistake in the wrist pins before April 2015 I believe it would it affect all engines.

For my 2015 C300, my engine makes no noticeable ticking noises and the driver's door tag states "05/15" for a production date. As for the engine...after running a VIN check, the last 5 digits for my engine seems to be "~49449".
So I take it my car does not fall under the TSB...but I'll ask my service manager anyway when I take it in for it's "A" service.
