Buzzing noise near passenger side front headlight

Hey guys,

Do anyone hear a loud buzzing noise outside the car near the passenger side headlight after driving the car? I hear this loud buzzing sound (a fairly high pitched electronic noise) every time after I drive and park the car. It buzzes for 2-3 minutes before turning off completely. I though it might have to do with the headlights but it makes that noise even when the lights shut off completely. I have the full LED headlights with lighting package.

Are you sure it's just not the fan staying on?

No it doesn't sound like the fan. Sounds like amplified electric current noise (bad transformer somewhere?) and it's coming from right behind the passenger side headlight. Never heard anything like this before on any of the cars I've owned or driven. This noise was present since I bought the car around Christmas but it seems to be getting louder. Will have the dealer check it out next week but just want to see if others have the same noise. Maybe the fan motor is bad?

I was wondering about the noise I was hearing after shutting off the engine. Definitely sounds like a fan and stays on about 20 seconds or so.

Is it not a small electric cooling water pump that runs after engine switched off?

All Benz cars make this noise after shut down as all the electronics, Emissions control etc shuts down. It might be the excess air fan in your case. You can even hear solenoids clicking if you listen carefully.

If it's the typical Benz noise it sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment behind the glove box if seated in the drivers seat. Listen to another car to see if yours is the normal shut down process.

As Stan says it might be the cooling fan still running especially if you were using the A/C.

Did you ever solve this? I recently purchased a 1997 SL500 and it makes that noise you describe but only when I turn the headlights on.
