Having just passed my 1,000 mile break-in period - Thank God Almighty, 'cause showing restraint was a b**** - here are the instructions from the manual that I followed.

Now, Sport+ for life! (Not really; that mode is frickin' insane. Screamin' and vibratin' my foot off @ around 3000 RPM in 50 mph zones. No.)

Anyway, here ya go iluvdaBenz.

The first 1000 miles (1500 km)
  • The more you look after the engine when it is new, the more satisfied you will be with its performance in the future.
  • You should therefore drive at varying vehicle and engine speeds for the first 1000 miles (1500 km).
  • Avoid heavy loads, e.g. driving at full throttle, during this period.
  • When changing gears manually, change up in good time, before the tachometer needle reaches Ô of the way to the red area of the tachometer.
  • Do not manually shift to a lower gear to brake the vehicle.
  • Try to avoid depressing the accelerator pedal beyond the point of resistance (kickdown).
  • All vehicles (except Mercedes-AMG vehicles): ideally, for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km), drive in drive program E.

Additional breaking-in notes:
  • Do not drive faster than 85 mph (140 km/h) for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km).
  • Only allow the engine to reach a maximum engine speed of 4,500 rpm briefly.
  • Change gear in good time.
  • Ideally, for the first 1,000 miles (1,500 km), drive in program C.
  • After 1000 miles (1500 km), you can increase the engine speed gradually and accelerate the vehicle to full speed.
  • You should also observe these notes on breaking in if the engine or parts of the drive train on your vehicle have been replaced.

Ordered a C450 from a dealer approx. 500 miles away to get down to 16.5% off MSRP with fleet discount. Now my question based on all this discussion of break-in periods is whether I will hurt the car by taking it on a 500 mile road trip from the dealer home. Plan to take my son and split it over 2 days. All highway and I can vary the speed while also keeping it under 85.

Any thoughts about the impact this might have on the engine?

Thanks!

Can I get an opinion this lease deal?

I managed to negotiate a C450 down to around 47k from the original 55k sticker.

It has premium package P02, heated seats, rear view camera, led lights, panorama. Everything else is standard.

Money factor: 0.00129
12k miles/36 months

Down payment: 2k

Incentives: 5 months of waived lease payments of my current MB lease(@350/month)... MB takes care of 3, dealer takes care of remaining 2.

Complimentary 10k,20k,30k service

Payment (including tax) : 584/month.

Now i realize this is lower than what many of you have/been quoted for a lease, but the deal is valid this weekend only since supposedly there will be new programs come Monday. Should i lock this down or wait for better programs or for the C43? I assume there aren't many changes...

Anything I should be wary about?

This seems like an awesome deal. If it's got the features you want, I'd do it. The only reason I decided to wait for the c43 was because I wanted a custom car, or at least a feature set that was close to what I would do with a custom build, and I just couldn't find one around here.

I do not think you can beat that deal anywhere. You are getting a MB for the price of an infiniti. JUMP ON IT. just hope it's not a test drive vehicle however.

I just drove it like I stole it in S+ since the 4th mile. And I have a 48mo finance on the car and plan to keep it for awhile, maybe even forever, unless a 4matic C63 is released. I did not breach the 85mph mark though, but I did drive aggressively and in S+ always, however, never did I WOT the car until at least 500miles in and had it bounce off the redline once by accident.

That is an amazing deal!!! Most of us who got the car in 2015 are paying well over 700, 800 some even more. If I was in your position I would inspect the car as if you were buying a used vehicle and find out if this was a tester car.

I noticed the odometer of my custom ordered car was 20 miles. Is that normal? I would think it should be less than 10 miles. I hope someone at the MB dealership was not taking my future car on a joy ride

Relax, that's very normal. Here in Canada, most new cars arrive with about 10 or so KMS on the clock, and the dealership would drive it for an additional 13 KMS or so, during their pre-delivery inspection

Does anyone else notice when sometimes parking, if you cut the wheel hard and move, there's sort of a rubbing feeling? Hard to explain, but it doesn't feel smooth. I find it hard to believe the tires are rubbing against something though.

I've seen a couple of guys post about that when turned hard against the left steering lock. Do you have the 19" wheels?

I have had some steering issues....car has been in the shop for 2 times...a total of 38 days to correct a steering issue. I notice the same thing...in a parking lot and issues when making changes in direction....does not feel right, but one time really noticeable when going on sweeping curves to the left...you can not get a driving line to go around the curve in a smooth manner...you were always correcting the turn angle, and also when going down the highway in higher speeds....say 70-80 mph....with both hands on the wheel, it does not center itself....it has a nervous twitchy feeling to the steering. My mechanic when sorting out the issue, treated it as an alignment issue, letting go of the steering wheel, and it would drift slightly left......I got mad and told home to put both hands on the steering wheel and drive....it was then when he said things are ok....to being quiet, and then the car ended up in the shop for the first time for over 2 weeks. If it does not feel right...be persistent about it. It is not right!! First time in....alignment done...then steering was reset by computer.....said the sensors were off. Second time...new steering module being installed. 10 day wait for the module to arrive....

After pondering for a while I decided to debadge my c450. Ive seen lots of discussion about why some choose to debadge and for me it was about the clean symmetry of having no letters on the trunk lid. I love the clean look and I'm happy I did it.

2016 c450 / 2016 VW Jetta 1.8t / 2006 Wrangler X
I just noticed some interesting things in the car. At slow speeds, opening the drivers door jams on the park brake. I was parking in my driveway in reverse and cracked the door open when the car came to an abrupt stop. After that it needed to be manually released and the car had to be put back into gear.
Also, I'm pleased to find my car has illuminated sills (M-B not AMG) and 3 color ambient lighting. I was under the impression that only cars with the leather interior pack had this. I ordered a car with dinamica.
Finally, I am noticing all of the branding Easter eggs Mercedes stuff inside. My vw had the logo in the headlight reflectors was cool, but this car is overkill! Intelligent written on the headlight housing, pre safe on the seat belts, AMG on the rear suspension parts. I opened the map pockets up to find "retro geo-locator storage" written. . . alright that's a lie.

No negative impact whatsoever, tan70ri, that I can think of. In fact, while keeping within the guidelines the powertrain may even like it, so to speak, as our Mercs are made for the those long, steady Interstate runs.

There was a comment about not using cruise control, which seemed to have been directed to your question, but I'm not aware of how that adversely could affect break-in.

So, after negotiating that sweet deal, go get it!! Hell, you'll be halfway done with the break-in when you finally park it at the house.

Guilty as charged a couple times, T..........'til I realized I needed to mellow my happy *** out. Think I touched 90-95 on one long (3/4-1 mile) straightway that turns into a nice hi-speed, on-ramp like sweeper in my local area that has been used to test acceleration and roadholding with other vehicles. And I think I revved it just past 4,500 once in S+, too. The poor boosted 3.0 was screamin' like a stuck pig. I was like, oops. My bad! Sorry 'bout that!

Then I just set my individual engine setting to eco and switched to granny mode. Drove me crazy; frickin car is always telling us to wring it out! And we both are clearly cut from the same cloth.

You were much more tamed than I was lol. Sports + all the way even when my wife is/was driving I switch it to S+ for her and even she wouldn't drive the car in any other mode other than sports+. Car is fine, i broke it in on the more aggressive side but tough love makes everything bulletproof.

Much respect, T-Money....to you and the wife. No doubt.

Seems you have the same kinda lady on your hands that I have on mine. A walking example of why we endearingly call 'em ladies "Car Guys".

I mean, if mine (since the day we met) isn't trying to out-wrestle or out-grapple me (read: kick my butt), she's looking to out-drive me like she's some new up & coming F1 driver name Louise Hamilton.

Needless to say, riding shotgun is crazy fun if not sometimes terrifying, but that's where our self-tightening seat belts come in quite handy.
  • Damn, sister, slow down!! What's the rush?
  • You be quiet. I'm drivin' today; you just rock the tunes and shut up.
  • Dear Lord, Please let this 4matic keep us outta the ditch....and don't encourage her, please.

Oh, these car nut, sports nut ladies!! Got love 'em. (Translation: I think we've hit the jackpot. )

I just noticed this the other day... I picked up my car on Sat and when reversing the same day, and turning the wheel to the left, it sounded like the wheel was rubbing.. Should I take it in?

I just broke 100 miles and have burned a half tank of gas. I don't adhere to the break in procedure suggested by many. I like to drive it the way I normally will, right out of the dealership. I really like the sounds it makes in sport + and apparently this is not as efficient as eco mode. I drove around the airport this weekend just to hear it pop over and over and over.

Yes!!! I am not the only 1 wow!!!
