I negotiated professionally for several years. In a successful negotiation each side walks away thinking they might have been able to do a little better. You did fine. Enjoy the car.

4 matic badge?

Hi all

When I received my car it had no 4matic badge on the rear boot lid but does have the c450 badge. I have seen a few photos of other 450's for which the same is true.

Do any of you NOT have the 4matic badge (prior to de- badging of course)?

I have pondered de badging my car but as I looked at it and noticed the missing badge I wondered if perhaps my dealer removed it since I purchased a demo car.

Thanks.

Ah, that explains it. One less for me to remove.

Has anyone debadged and had issues or is it fairly straightforward?

Agreed, easy to take them off. Just cut the adhesive with fishing line or dental floss. Most of what was left came off by rubbing my thumb on it. The residue with Goo Gone (the gel citrus, not the solvent). I could see a slight ghost of the emblems and a quick buff took care of that.

My dealer in Spain just emailed me that the Head-Up Display option (code 463) is temporarily unavailable due to delays provoked by Japan's last earthquake. Models affected are C (W/S/C205), GLC (X253), S (WV222) and S Coupé/Cabrio (A/C217). I can't believe it, I'm quite ****** *ff.

2016 C450
So my C450 has arrived at the dealership. Apparently, it arrived on Monday but the dealership could not get in touch with me! I got ordered it with Cardinal red exterior, designo Saddle brown nappa leather and linden wood. The linden wood is glossy and looks darker than expected. I wonder if it will look better in the sunlight. My car is pretty much fully loaded with the exception of the air balance package. I like tech so I ordered stuff like the driver assistance package, HUD, parktronic, etc. I will take delivery of it next week. I have a few questions:

What should I look for when I take delivery to make sure the car has been built properly? I am thinking of issues like misaligned bumpers, cracks in windows, etc?

I really do not want the dealership to drill through the bumper in order to attach the license plates. Is it possible for the license plates to be attached to the car using adhesive similar to the badges?

Is the consensus that the car should be broken in by driving in comfort mode for the first 1000 miles? What's the best way to break the engine in while letting it run with different RPMs?

I noticed that the side of the dashboard facing the driver/passenger has a big silver section. I would have liked it to be black to match the rest of the dashboard. The salesman told me it is standard for all C450s. Is this true?

Linden wood has a ton of depth in natural light but does read almost black indoors. It's a stunning finish, you'll be happy with it.

The silver spear across the dash is standard.

My pre purchase routine: Do a walk around in full sunlight for any pre delivery damage or paintwork.

Take the car out, listen for any creaks or rattles. Get it out on a stretch where you can get it up to highway speed.

Confirm no vibrations in the seat or steering wheel. Let go of the wheel on a straight stretch and confirm it doesn't pull or drift.

The 450 guys will chime in re the break in period.

Thanks for the suggestions! Is there a way to attach license plates to the front without drilling into to bumper? I do not want to disfigure something so pretty!

I'd tell them to leave the front bracket off and you'll affix it yourself. Then get some 3M automotive double sided trim tape and have at it.

There are generally two philosophies for break-in

Drive it like you stole it: seals the pistons better to their average usage

Drive it like a grandma for XXXX miles: allows the engine to self lubricate, etc.

I always drive it like I stole it.

I've been pretty much driving it like grandma, in comfort mode per the manual, except for some rapid accelerations here and there because I can't help myself. I'm at just over 700 miles and getting antsy for the real fun to begin.

There is always this discussion about which way to go re:the break-in period. (I went through this with five motorcycles as well as all my cars). In my most humble opinion, the break-in directions in the owner's manual were put there for a reason. Somewhere in the R & D, engineers (who likely had some input on the design of the engine) came up with this plan. I'm sure lawyers were involved also.
I always followed the prescribed break-in procedures because A) it really isn't all that much of an inconvenience and B) it doesn't take very long. Also, if you do "drive it like you stole it" from the get-go and something DOES go wrong with the engine, those RPM and road speed details will be somewhere in the "black box" of the vehicle. I'm not saying that M-B WOULD use this as an excuse to refuse fixing the engine under warranty, but they COULD. Why risk it?
I plan to keep my 450 for a long time - the better I treat it at the beginning, the longer it will last (ostensibly, anyway). Reigning in the RPMs and keeping the speed down for the first 1000 didn't bother me (it was at the beginning of winter weather, anyway). Now that Spring has sprung, my 450 is all nicely broken in and I can really give it a workout....

I like the double stick idea, I have been going without hoping not to get pulled over.

+1 on the easy break in. Have always done it pretty much "by the book". Plenty of opportunity to which the loud pedal after break in.

.
If leasing drive it like you stole it from day 1. If purchasing, consider the manuals break in period if you'd like to play it safe...hard and soft breaks ins have worked for many, so there's really no one definitive way to do it.
