MBrace Auto-Start

So - I don't know how true this is or not - but when I was picking up my car on Thursday, I brought up how I was shocked MB didn't have an remote-start solution. My salesman said that MB was working on an update to MBrace to supply that functionality. If you already have Keyless-Go, it would just be a software update to remote-start the car from your phone.

Have no idea on when and if this is true or not, but would be a very cool new feature.

Anyone else heard anything about this?

I really doubt that a remote start function could be enabled with a software only solution.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see how the MBrace app could do this.

If this is true about getting remote start for my 2015 C300...

...this would be enough to sway me to subscribe to MBrace.

I thought this way at first also, but if you have Keyless-Go, it is a software command that is starting your car anyway when you push the start button. So if MBrace can call that same software command, it makes sense that it would work.

They would have to program more logic into it of course (auto-shutdown after 10 minutes or so, can't drive off without the smart-key in close proximity, etc).

That activates the ignition electronics, but it still requires a physical push of the start button.

Even if it could be done, I'm sure it would wind up being an option that MB would charge for. This makes sense if they build in that function at the time of assembly, on a per order basis. I just don't see this happening as an update to MBrace.

But what does that start button do? It doesn't provide electrical current to the ignition through electrical contacts, it calls up the CPU that controls the ignition. The CPU, being driven by software, actually controls the ignition process. So - why can't a piece of software issue that same command to the CPU? It's the same as MBrace opening or closing your door locks. A piece of software controlling a CPU that initiates a physical action.

I see no reason why it should not be possible in a car already equipped with KEYLESS-GO. The push of a button exactly sends signal to the electronics to crank the car to life. It should be possible to replace the "physical intervention" with a software update. Should be similar to how the car is locked/unlocked using phone. In fact one of the main reasons I took MBrace was to have the remote start functionality. Was disappointing to see that they did not have a remote start feature. But it is good if it is coming.

Possible heated steering wheel, remote start, AND parts of Mbrace will be free for 5 years for MY16 ?

...why am I buying a 2015?

Remote start and a heated sterring wheel are important options for me...options my current 2014 Jeep grand Cherokee has, and I LOVE!

I know it's too late for the heated steering wheel for my pending 2015, but when it comes to this possible remote start and parts of MBrace being offered for 5 years free...I'll be really PISSED if Mercedes Benz doesn't make this feature retroactive to my 2015.

I didn't see a statement of "MY16 Only"...so fingers crossed remote start through MBrace will be available for MY15 as well.

Having the ability to remote start my 2015 C300 is the ONLY way I would ever renew my subscription to MBrace.

I hope so too! What continues to amaze me is that many of these options are already standard on lower end cars...
