Have you had your wheel balances checked?

It could be a lot of things...

Could also be bent wheels, check on the inside of the wheel.

It could be slightly bent but will cause a vibration and you will feel in the steering.

Get the wheels dynamically balanced ( this balances more than just the wheel, itself).

Got an appointment in 2 weeks to get the crankshaft replaced. Been through several sets of rims and tyres, new drive shafts and a gearbox optimization. Nothing that they have tried so far has gotten rid of vibrations in my car.

I read your story. Can you explain the vibrations you're getting, are they at the steering wheel, from the car itself (felt through the seat) , under what circumstances and speeds?

I have an S205 that feels like it has a wheel balance issue at bang on 70mph. Its smooth at 75 and smooth at 65 but 70mph produces an intermittent front to back wheel vibration. As 50-70mph is where most wheel imbalances are felt, its on my list of things for the dealer to check when it goes in for its software updates in a few weeks.

Personally I can feel the vibrations at any speed between 30 km/h and 150 km/h - However the speed where I have been able to make the MB technician feel, and verify that something is wrong is usually between 110 and 130 km/h.

The nature of the vibrations is from the car itself. I can feel it in my speeder-leg resting against the side of the panel, the door and console armrest, the leg support, the back support, sometimes combined with a little bit of shaking from the steering wheel.

The vibrations are very subtle, but the impact of them is crushing. Especially after longer driving sessions 1+ hrs, when the car is coming to a stop or is turned off, then it's like the most peaceful moment in your life.

Thanks for the detail. Its a similar speed when I notice this on mine. I feel it drift between the steering wheel and the car chassis so to me, at least on mine, I think there's a slight wheel imbalance. It only takes a tiny amount on my Z4 to create this wobble/vibration and I think given I have AirMatic on my s205, the super smooth ride makes any wobble even more noticeable. I'm hopeful that a simple re-balance of the wheels/tyres will resolve mine.

Yeah, that sounds rather close to what I'm experiencing - I find it very interesting how you hint at airmatic might enhance the vibrations.

I have airmatic on my s205 aswell, and I have for the longest time been of the impression that the fault lies with airmatic - MB has denied this several times, but I remain unconvinced - I have zero insight on mechanincs, my assessment is based purely on what I am feeling from the car, so who am I to question professionals - I am interested in learning more about your thoughts on airmatic and vibrations / shockabsortion with the s205 - What makes you believe that airmatic will result in increased vibrations?

I have to mention, that I have never in any of my previous cars (with or without sports suspension, 19+" rims, low profile tyres) experienced a more uncomfortable ride.

Sure it "swooshes" over soft changes in the road, but other than that, I cannot find any comfort with it - To me it feels like i get information from every single tiny imperfection in the road surface transported into me albeit in a suble way, sometimes I even get shakes from invisible changes in the road - It's driving me nuts.

AirMatic I really love. Sure, things like manhole covers and steps in the road can be felt but even then IMHO its a huge improvement on the Springs which on the AMG line model I test drove were rock hard, so much so that I felt more bounce in the hard run flat tyres than from the cars own suspension. I don't regret AirMatic for a minute.

As AirMatic is very, very smooth on the motorway, this is I feel why wheel vibration (which goes through suspension arms, not the air struts) is more notable. Its a bit like the wind noise issue. If you had a noisy car, wind noise would be less noticeable, but because the C Class is so quiet, wind noise stands out. I feel the wheel imbalance (and it really does feel like that) can be felt more because the car is so smooth, whereas with steel suspension being more rigid, you'll not get as smooth a ride in the first place which masks other vibrations.

In any event I'm sure they (or I) will be able to resolve the vibration with a wheel balancing session. Its only very minor, you can't see the steering wheel movement, you can just feel it come and go at circa 70mph.

Have you tried taking the car to be balanced on a Road Force balancer? I had to resort to this on my Z4 as I bought new wheels for it that no matter what the dealer or indy tried, still had an on off vibration at motorway speeds. When I took it to a road force balancer garage they found an issue with the tyre moulding, adjusted the balancing that bit more and its now fine.

I switched from my W204 to the new A Class (W176) WITH runflats..... had the same issue, vibrating, noise..... balanced my wheels couple of times, but still the same.

Switched to NON runflats and it was gone....

That's why I'm suggesting a road force balancer. Much cheaper than a full set of tyres.

they take the tire off of the wheel, heat the wheel up until the alloy is malleable, and then make the wheel completely round again

When I took my 2015 300 to the dealership a couple weeks ago for slight vibrations at highway speeds, they rebalanced the wheels, and the replaced my right-rear Pirelli tire because they noticed a flat spot.

My car is smooth as glass now.
