One question about paddle shifter..

Dear all,

Sorry for my noob question but i am new to paddle shifter..

I would like to ask if it is normal to hear a "sound" when i change gear using the paddle shifter...?

For example, I was in M2 and shift to M3 at around 3500-4000 rpm...at the moment when i press the shifter..there was a sound from the engine..it is hard to describe that "sound"...but it was kinda like "a bullet was fired from the gun".lol...

you have to be in Sport+ mode then you will hear that "sound" coming from the exhaust. I can reproduce that in my s205 everytime after driving a while. And it is not only when you shift with the paddles, but you can time it better with them.(Sorry for my english)

Guess it's possible - though never heard my car make that sound. Then again I have the baby engine

Does the on board computer get in the way as it does in the W204 ?

In my current C Class I completely ignore the paddles as I can not get the car to change gear when I want it to, only when it allows me to. This means that I can not just drop down a gear to overtake on single carriageways, as the computer won't let me.

It would be great to know that is not the case when I eventually pick up my w205, and that the car will now allow you the freedom of changing gears when you want to (within reason, of course)

I know the reason they do this is to stop you going back into 1st when at 60mph, but it should allow you to drop a gear to get that extra overtaking oomph

That seems strange.... On mine, yes, the computer gets in the way - ie it reverts to D after a short while (unless it's in Manual mode, set up in Individual Drive), but no - it does not stop me pulling a manual downshift for overtaking, I do this a lot - run in Comfort drive mode and drop it down a cog, using the paddle shifter.

On the W204,it stops you when in manual or in any of the auto settings

You can hear a certain Mr. Clarkson shouting at Mercs for not allowing him to change gear

That sound is a pop from the exhaust and I kind of like it... Though I am coming from an AMG lol.

You'll have to be on the gas for a while then shift at a high enough RPM. Doesn't have to be fast, you can shift at 2500 in first, then 4-5k in second and you'll get a nice pop. I believe it's from some pressure build up?

the sound is unburnt gas in the exhaust system exploding because of the faster shift and the air-fuel ratio changes a little but in sport+

coming back to this, my car does not make the sound while in manual mode, only sport plus. disappointing because my individual setting is manual mode and I would like to hear the sound
