Hello All,
I just purchased my first Mercedes Benz car. I got a brand new 2015 C300 for $52k on road with AMG package, lighting package, premium package.

I also got the 3 year pre-paid maintenace plan from the dealer.

However, I declined all the other extras the dealer offered like the extended warranty, paint protection, leather protection, tire replacement etc.

I am now thinking if I should have got at least some of those protection plans?

What are your thoughts? Can we get these by ourselves for cheap outside?

Also, how about all weather mats, mud flaps and wheel locks? Are these necessary?

Thanks,
Sri

Nice car. Your headlights in the picture look like partial LED's instead of the full LED's. Maybe its just the angle of the shot but either way enjoy your new car!

congrats! and yea, those lights are like my lights, full LED but not the lighting package with intelligent LED.

where abouts are you located? that could help determine if you need any of those protections.

lots of sand and gravel on your roads? maybe paint protection.

live in the desert? maybe a super dark tint or leather protection.

lots of potholes around? tire protection could come in handy

Or just get really good insurance

Nice car.. I got the wheel and tire protection along with the appearance warranty. Thinking about getting an extended warranty too. I believe I have 60 days to purchase or the price goes up.

Thanks for the responses guys. I live in Durham, NC, USA. Can you folks also tell me how much you paid for those extras so that I can get an idea if my dealer is being reasonable.

Thanks,
Sri

paint, fabric, leather protection for 7 years $200
Multi Shield protection for 5 years $1,000, (door dents, key replacement)
Tire and wheel $900

The extended warranty I'm still debating on whether i will get it or not. I plan on keeping it 6 or 7 years and I put about 18,000 miles a year on a car so I may go ahead and get the extended warranty up to 100,000 miles/6 years. $2,750

I may have over done it all, but gives me a little peace of mind.

Hope this helps.

First you need to worry that you are paying for the 319 - lighting package, but you are not getting one. That is a $800 straight loss. I would talk with the dealer immediately and have that ironed out.

eric123,
if it is just $200 for paint, fabric, leather protection for 7 years, I will go for it. I am not sure if I can get it now. I purchased my car less then a week ago.

And where are you located?

Can we add some of these add-ons after a month or couple of months?

Thanks,
Srikanth

Congrats on the new car! This is my first MB as well.

In addition to how I ordered my 2015 C300 4Matic Sport (see signature), I opted for the following extras:

1) XPEL self-sealing "ultimate" clear bra, standard wrap plus top of rear bumper, 10 yr warranty - $695

2) 36 month wheel/tire protection plus (since I have the 19" AMG wheels) - $998

3) 2 yr pre-paid maintenance - $725

As for the floor mats, I highly recommend the MB all-season mats...I bought my full set (front & rear) for $93.50 w/free shipping on eBay.

Sorry, but there are NO MB mud flaps for the W205 with the AMG sport package...at least not yet.

As for the locking lug nuts, I'm beginning to think they're not worth the money or effort. If a "Pro" wants your wheels, they'll get them. Most people keep their lug nut "key" in the car...and they know that.

I'm in Louisville, KY. I was surprised that it was only $200. I bet they will be glad for you to add any warranty they offer. It seems to me that they may give you thirty days to add them on some of these.

MassC300, your list is interesting, question:

1a. About the paint protection film? Just trying to understand, wouldn't it be better to leave the paint surface and just wax your car twice a season?
1b. If you do put this film, then wouldn't you lose the ability to polish your car? And if you do polish, it might dull the surface? after all the film is a plastic?

2. Service: Doesn't new MB come with free service for some limited time like a year or so? And even if not, it should be just oil change and usually tire-rotation ... why would you pay so much for 2 years (oil changes are a pretty low cost item)

3. Mats: The mats you buy on ebay are they same you get from the dealership?

4. Mudflaps. I always though they come with mudflaps? Do you need them? (for a c300 luxury)

5. Are these service agreements transferable if you sell your car? (I am silly, and while i wish to keep vehicles longer, but I keep changing them every year or two)

True101,

To answer some of your questions
1. Some protective coatings/films allow you to wax/buff/polish the car, but i don't think that Xpel is one of them because you would scratch the film.

2. I think you get something like that, but it doesn't cover the wheels and other things that could be damaged.

3. You could buy the OEM mats from eBay or you could get them at the dealership. You could even get them from WeatherTech, I think its the same thing just without the MB logo.

4. You can only install mudflaps on the non-sport models (I think)
I remember reading that they did not want them because they weren't aesthetically pleasing.

5. No they are not transferable, at least that's what they told me when I paid for them. Do you mean like from car to car or from owner to owner?

You guys rock.

@madmax, yes, I think I have the partial Leds.

@massc300, Nice addons and congratulations on your first MB.
If ou don't mnd can you tell me how much you paid for your car? I am just trying to see if I got a good deal. On mine, MSRP was around 55k and I paid 50k including 3 year pre-paid maintenace.

Thanks,
Srikanth

1a. About the paint protection film? Just trying to understand, wouldn't it be better to leave the paint surface and just wax your car twice a season?
Wax alone will not protect the front/hood/mirrors from the normal "sandblasting" the front facing surfaces of your car receives on a daily basis. It's even worse if you live in a snowbelt like I do where they treat the roads with sand/salt in the Winter.

Quote:
1b. If you do put this film, then wouldn't you lose the ability to polish your car? And if you do polish, it might dull the surface? after all the film is a plastic?
I would only lose the ability to polish the car surface under the film itself...but there is no need to polish the surface underneath the film, it's protected. If anything, waxing/polishing your car becomes that much easier since the film covered surfaces do not get waxed or polished. I've had some sort of "clear bra" applied to my new cars for years, never had an issue of yellowing, fading, cracking or anything...and the front end/hood/mirrors stayed looking like new for years. On the cars that I have not applied clear bra, the front end gets chipped after the very first Winter. Remember, the clear bra can always be removed or new portions reapplied.

You must be thinking BMW because Mercedes Benz does NOT offer free maintenance (oil changes, wiper blades, tire rotation).

Quote:

The very same. They were genuine W205 Mercedes Benz mats.

Quote:
4. Mudflaps. I always though they come with mudflaps? Do you need them? (for a c300 luxury)
Of course you don't absolutely NEED mud flaps, and most of the time, vehicles do not come with them either. Mud flaps DO give some protection to the painted surfaces in back of each wheel.

My dealership actually said the wheel/tire protection plan, and the pre-paid maintenance plan were transferable...but I don't really believe that because I've read otherwise. The terms are 3 years/2 years respectfully, and I plan on keeping this car at least that long...so transferability of those plans is not an issue for me. The only real concern for me was being able to go to ANY Mercedes Benz dealership in the country under these two plans...which I can.

I'm glad I opted for the 36 month wheel/tire protection plus plan...

My wife and I noticed a VERY slight vibration in the steering wheel at speeds above 75 mph, so I took it to the MB dealership today to have it looked at...along with my rear deck spoiler not attached correctly on the passenger side.

1/2 a day later (free C300 loner of course), they replaced a tire because they said it had a flat spot, and road balanced the rest of the wheels...and washed the vehicle.

As for my rear spoiler, they said it was warped & defective, so they took it off, and ordered me a new one. It will be ready for install in about 10 days since it has to be painted first.

Total cost for me...$0

eric123 and massc300,
Can you please tell me from where you bought the add-ons like paint protection, tire and wheel protection etc?

My dealer is offering me car care system for $1000 for 5 years, paintless dent repair for $749 and tire and wheel for $1299. I am not sure about the length of coverage for paintless dent repair and tire/wheel protection

Thanks,
Srikanth

Cal-Tex/Resistall NG2 is the paint, fabric and leather protection and Multi Shield Protection Plan is the Dent and lost Key protection. Mercedes is covering the tire and wheel protection.
