Has anyone tried this aftermarket 360 (surround view) camera?

I confirmed that the individual parts for surround view come in at a little over $5K MSRP. This would include 4 cameras (front, rear, left, and right), the control module, and the brackets for the cameras.

As an alternative, has anyone tried this aftermarket kit?

The feedback is all 5 out of 5 stars; however, there is not a single informative comment out of the entire group (18).

Viper, I was a bit irritated that this was not offered. However, I got the 2016 order guide and it says that the option is available for $1290 including Parktronic.

I'm thinking if you have rear view camera already, the cost should not be that high to retrofit.

The issue with the aftermarket kit is that its basically in aux input, so you would have to manually trigger it and modify the COMAND to do that. I'm not sure how the stock 360 works because ideally it would trigger at < 1mph and in Reverse/Park.

Theres one company in Korea that seems to have a OEM-like solution, but not sure anyone here has tried it. See:

The DVR function is interesting. The ultimate dashcam.

I was thinking the exact same thing so I made sure to ask, but it looks like the rear camera in the surround view kit replaces the rear camera in the Parktronic package. (I know that makes zero sense to me also).

Yeah, the aftermarket kit looks like it does something cheesy to determine driving direction:

"When you shift into reverse, it automatically features the rear camera view. When you shift back into drive, the front view pops up on the monitor. You also have the option of detailed side views."

"Three start-up modes available: Back-up/Double click on malfunction indicator lamp button/Remote-control activation"

...the diagram on the left doesn't appear to tie into any of the car's control units. The "2 Main Signal Interface" in the diagram on the right looks interesting:

This option does seem to get us closer to the stock 360, I like it better then the one that I found.

So, the OEM cameras are the majority of the cost (approximately $900 MSRP each). Besides the physical connector on the camera, what would the chances be that there would be some non-OEM camera that would work with the OEM control module?

The answer might be related to why the Parktronic camera can't be used in the 360 configuration. Is it a field of view issue? I'll see if I can get that info.

Thanks for the info superM!

Agreed... it comes with and without, and the difference is approximately $37 - seems like a no-brainer.

So that may be a good option, as the OEM retrofit is VERY expensive. I know; I did it in my C63, all with OEM parts. Parts were a few grand, install was a few grand, and then setup must be done by a Mercedes dealership, to hookup into the STAR system I believe, and configure the car for the 360 cam. That was a few hundred dollars.

Being that I use the camera MULTIPLE times a day, EVER day, it was worth the expense IMO, esp given I think the OEM Mercedes 360 camera is by far the best OEM (or even aftermarket) 360 camera system on the market. But cost cannot be ignored. If you're interested in the retrofit, lemme know; I can link you to the guys who can get you all the parts you'll need.

Another aftermarket option I have (but haven't installed; it's a universal kit, for a different car) is this: https://www.gazer.com/surround_view_system/us.html. 360 camera + realtime recording. Yes, the ultimate dash cam

i emailed some guy from singapore who guarantees or 10x your money back that hes will sell you all the OEM parts to retrofit a 2017 glc300 with the 360 cam. the cost was like $6000 singapore dollars or as he says is roughly around $4500 USDA. hes says the version coding is a piece of cake for him but hes in singapore. also both side mirrors are replaced with new ones that are fitted for the cams, therefore, no drilling here.
for those that are interested i can leave his email addy here but for me....the cost is too much for a car that isnt even mine (wife's)

oh and btw...unless you have the skills to install this yourself..........more $$$$$$$$$$$$$

ps...whatever happened to guys like steve and sunil who used to do oem benz mods for folks in here? steve put in voice comand and folder mirrors for me in my 2006 e360 some 10+ years ago.
