2017 models (some of them, not all) have the new window felt.
The one in the picture, had felt in the driver door, in the passenger side had just the regular rubber type (like 2015, and 2016 models), I don't know if is a standard issue, or factory error.
I saw the new Class E have the same window felt

s too.

Someone mentioned getting extra insulation in the doors if I got it right. Any news on that? The acoustic glass has for me made a slight improvement but it's not much.

How are you others who aren't satisfied going on about this?

Old felt, no acoustic glass.

Then, new felt, no acoustic glass.
Latest, maybe new felt, with acoustic glass.

Well I'll have new felt and acoustic glass so win win (unless you count all the days it's collectively been in the shop)...

Today I've returned my vehicle to MB after formally rejecting it due to the wind-noise issue. It's only 2 wks old, so had that option.

i've been reading various threads on the subject, both in the UK and elsewhere, but cannot find any consistency in a specific model, batch or factory. That might suggest that this is a design problem or that MB still have not got on top of it. I seem to recall reading that MB are claiming they've got the best aero package in the compact exec category - this issue seem to put that statement in context...

not sure where to go next, but will consider another c-class if they can find one without this issue

I had the acoustic glass fitted last week in UK main dealer. It definitely makes a difference to the wind noise through the side windows. it wasn't just wind noise but general noise from outside - other cars passing I could here them more than in my Ford Fiesta. it was the first time the dealer had fitted them and they too were surprised about the difference.

The only problem now is that other small creaks are more apparent but I can usually defeat them with the Burmester sound system on a reasonable level.

problem I found is that you next hear more noise through the door seals...

the glass replacement is nice but not enough to solve the issue. They tried to change the door geometry next (or that's what they told me!). That didn't help either. If anything, it made it worse

New to the forum, just got my W205 a month ago. Just had my C300 sent in for the wind noise issue after reading this thread. Mine is a 6/16 build, so it had the new felt but no acoustic glass. They fitted the acoustic glass, and did some other stuff such as taping the door jambs and "adjust the doors for a tighter seal". It's definitely quieter now. Might not have been that drastic an improvement as what some of the earlier posters mentioned. I think in large part, the new felt on the windows on the later builds already contributed a lot to the noise reduction.

Also, I had to go to a couple of dealers to get this resolved. The dealer I bought the car from just outrightly said that the issue was normal, and they had never heard of the acoustic glass replacement. I ended up going to SFBenz and they pretty much did the replacement, no questions asked. Though I'm puzzled why any dealer would refuse to do warranty work that is pretty much guaranteed income for them from MB, and make their customer happy in the process.

I had the same experience at two dealers. Maybe it's my area but the mercedes dealers have been awful. Finally found a great dealer but I was about to give up on the brand entirely. I had an early build 2015 and am extremely happy with the fix. Starting to love this car finally.

Quick update to confirm that i've now rejected the car and returned it to MB. All monies paid have been refunded and the deal was cancelled. Their response after having the car for a week was "we are sorry you were disappointed, but we couldn't find anything out of the ordinary, and will put this down to the characteristics of the vehicle".

I'm not sure what to do next as I loved the c-class (apart from that noise!) and don't think anything else would be as good. I might go for the CLS, though

Acoustic glass helps mask the issue. The issue remains.

there has to be a cause and that is where attention needs focus.

Yesterday got the new felt service fix installed under warranty. In addition to the acoustic glass my car is now completely silent.

Interesting, I am thinking perhaps start with the felt first, if that doesn't work, I will get the full acoustic glass, can you PM me which dealership do you take your car to?

Thanks mate.

After reading this thread I mentioned about slight wind noise I could hear that starts at 70mph during the first service. I was told that there was a service bulletin and that they would fit acoustic glass and that they would need the car for a day.

I arrived a little early to pick the car up and watched the complete job to replace the drivers side glass from their first floor viewing gallery after they had completed the other side.

The total time from undoing the first screw to cleaning the new glass was 10 minutes.

Not sure it has made any difference to wind noise as it was a slow drive home.

Did you ask about the additional 'felt' service?

No I didn't. To be honest it wasn't that bad in the first place.

felt is for clicking doors as body flexes and is nothing to do with wind noise.

Interesting... read earlier comment that suggested both glass replacement and felt install both making the car "completely silent". Is that to imply that the problem wasn't just wind-noise?

Well I now had my (second!) new c250d for a couple of days and it's pretty damn quiet! I'd still go and replace the glass to the acoustic one but it's certainly not as noisy out-of-the-box as the previous one. Oh and it's 4matic with a 9g gearbox as well

Well it is been a month now since I had new glass fitted and it has made a difference. The wind noise that started at 70mph now doesn't start until 80mph

I did an audio recording, using my iPhone, of the cabin noise before and after the fix, and based on the recordings, there was a noticeable reduction in noise after the fix.

I used the same stretch of road which was a newly paved section of freeway (eliminating as much road noise as possible so that we can focus on wind noise), placed the phone in the same position, and set the cruise control to 65 mph.

FWIW, as a comparison with other cars, I did the same recordings on my MDX, with and without roof crossbars, and the results from quietest to least quiet: (1) MDX without crossbars, (2) W205 after fix (3) MDX with crossbars (4) W205 before fix.

Bear in mind this is just listening to the recordings by ear and comparing which one sounds louder. I didn't attempt to get any quantitative metric from the sound files like average decibels or whatever.

Are these recordings posted online?

I did check my 2016 C300 , doesn't seem to have the acoustic glass nor the felt being mentioned in here. Will call the service tech and confirm if i can get this done.

Just to confirm , the service is for acoustic glass and felt on the front doors?
