Official wind noice service bulletin
#351
I got the both windows replaced by mercedes (took a week) and finally got the car back yesterday and it is noticeably quieter. I was in a 2016 c300 the whole time with the regular glass and i noticed the difference as soon as i hopped in my c400. Another thing i noticed though, the glass itself has less tint than the regular glass.

weird, my wind noise went away after applying WD40 to my pano roof seals. the whole time the noise was coming from the front of the dash. I dont know if this is pure coincidence, but maybe it was the roof?

2017 C300 excessive wind noise
The problem continues in 2017. The wind noise is not from the sunroof. Have used a loaner with NO sunroof and it has massive wind noise from 60MPH upwards. Totally unacceptable in a new Mercedes-Benz. Highway driving is completely unbearable at 65-70MPH.
Does anyone know if all C300's are built in Alabama?
Does the acoustic glass actually fix the wind noise problem?

Acoustic Glass fixed the issue on my MY2016

This is getting ridiculous if 2017 models still have the wind noise problem. What has Mercedes been doing for the past 3 years?

C300 AMG Line Coupe
I have a December 2016 Mercedes C300 AMG Line coupe and at 60+mpg I get high levels of wind noise around the area of the drivers side mirror. The seals all look perfect so I am of the view it is just poor design of the car and/or mirror. Due to lots of problems with my old car (never out the garage) I have been putting off going to the dealer. Is the solution to ask them to fit acoustic glass and will they do this under warranty? It is ruining the whole experience of the car for me at the moment.

For me it definitely improved.
I don't know what the procedure in the USA is though, since there are some discussions about that sometimes the felt is replaced to fix the issue.
I would just bring it in and complain about the noise.

I just purchased a 17 C300 Sport; not sure what the build date is but it's very quiet at highway speeds and has no wind noise at all. It does not have acoustic glass.

I don't know how MBUSA is handling this, but i just brought my October 2015 build in for 3A service at the dealer and complained about the windnoise and they replaced my front windows with acoustic glass without me having to ask for it. I am from the Netherlands btw.
For me it definitely improved.

Which dealer in Holland?I'm also from Holland and have the same thing with my C220 from 2015
Thanks

But the maintenance has been done by Stern Amersfoort.
In principle any dealer should take action on this.
MB is paying for the replacement, not the dealer.

Wind noise
Thanks, I will take it in to the dealer and find out what MBUK say about the issue. The car in general is noisy, the road noise at motorway speeds is worse than my old BMW with run flats, which is hard to believe. But the wind noise at the drivers mirror is what annoys me the most, hopefully it can be fixed and not something I need to live with. My car is a MY 2017.

SO continuing my own theory that this is largely caused by poor door seals I did an in situ test today.
having travelled at circa 70mph in light rain recently I noted a lot of water noise hiss from the doors each had time I ran over wet spots in the road.
there are two sets of seals on each door access, one on the frame and one on the door.
these sit inside each other when the door is closed, theoretically providing a double seal.
however....
so I wet each seal and closed the door.
as expected it left a ring of water around the door and a similar ring of water on the frame where each seal meets the other surface.
what I did note is a very light touch of the seal against the door and body on the lower edges. in some places , 1 or 2 inch gaps of no wet.
this would suggest the seals aren’t sealing properly and sound is travelling, esp at high speed when the seals deform due to pressure, up from the bottom of the door making it seem like noise is penetrating the entire door. This explains why I could never pinpoint exactly where on the door the noise was entering as it was the entire seal space carrying the noise.
sadly there is no treatment other than redesigned door seals which I believe I’ve read are being fitted.
time to go back to the dealer again...
#thebestornothing (except the door seals and cabin noises and a litany of other faults)

What would be great is if everyone shared their window markings post replacement.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the acoustic glass?
I took my car in on Dec 7 to Benzel Busch in Englewood NJ. At first they claimed there was no issue and then I mentioned about this post and the TSB. Then they called me back and said Now they hear the noice. Then getting to ordering part they tell me that the part is not available in the US or Germany. Ended up keeping the car 2 weeks and tells me they will call me when the part comes in. It’s now Feb and 2 months later and the part is still not available. Maybe I ca do a better job of tracking this down. To sweeten up the pot my head rest started rattling and again my car is in the shop going on 2 bloody weeks. I have owned the car for 3 months and it’s been stuck in a shop for going on over a month now.
Any suggestions?

So after owning my car for 5 months, I finally brought it in for the wind noise. At highway speeds, if there's no wind it can be tolerable. But any hint of a crosswind and the noise is just too much. My local dealership initially gave me some pushback but after taking a test drive with the mechanic, they finally went ahead and said they found some Service Bulletins that they can apply. Meanwhile, the first thing I said when I had brought my car in, was it's a CPO that's still under the new car warranty and I want the wind noise LI applied which includes replacing the front windows with acoustic glass. Anyhow appt, is set and they'll be doing some "taping" and further testing. Wish they could just fast-forward to replacing the glass and installing the felt so I can be on my way. Will keep all updated.

UPDATE:
Got my car back today and couldn't be happier. Acoustic glass installed on both driver and passenger side front doors along with felt. Initial impressions...absolutely worth the battle with the dealership.

Is there a way we can see all the service bulletins that can be applied to the W205? I thought the wind noise was normal but driving my other car, I can tell the W205 is much noisier. I brought this up to my dealer but said "could not find the noise".

Same experience as well. The LI you want applied is LI72.10-P-062500. It's pretty involved but ultimately will include installation of acoustic glass and insulating material. My other car is older than my C300 yet quieter - makes no sense. Dealer test drove my car and couldn't hear the noise. I recommend you do what I did, which is have a mechanic from your dealership take a ride with you and you point out the noise. After our drive, they "found" the bulletin pertaining to the wind noise to apply. Good luck!
