Wheel Alignment on 2015 c300

I took my car to the local Tires Plus to have a wheel alignment. They put it on the machine and said they could not do an alignment because they had to get a special part. The readout said "CAMBER and CASTER correction requires the removal of the lower control arms and replacing the elastomer bearing with a CAMBER/CASTER correction bearing available from the manufacturer." I called my Mercedes dealer and they said I would need a special part for $170.00 plus the cost of the alignment. Is this the only way to get an alignment??? Why couldn't Mercedes just make it easy for people to get an alignment with any shop? Why do I have to shell out hundreds of dollars when I can get "lifetime" package form one of the well-known shops for hundreds less? My goodness, it's only an alignment!
Any thoughts???
Thanks

Yikes, I was thinking of doing an alignment this weekend. I will check how much the dealer wants for an alignment.

Camber and caster adjustments are not often needed, the most important setting are front and rear toe values and they are both very easy to adjust.

Toe value is in 9 out of 10 cases the main culprit regarding tire wear and bad handling.

Are you saying Mercedes does not have to do it? Why wouldn't Tires Plus do it? The printout says that the CAMBER on both the front left and rear left are slightly off.
Thanks

Depends on how much the camber is off, my car is pretty heavily lowered and the camber is off, but I didnt bother when performing an alignment.

Mercedes covers alignment issues for the first 12months as part of warranty. Check ur warranty brochure.

Thanks. But I checked with them and alignments are not covered. What I guess I will do is get the alignment with them first, have the special parts installed 'cause once they're installed they stay on the car and then from then on I'll get an alignment with whomever I want.

Agreed, alignment is NOT covered. 200 bucks to fix. Service tech said W205 gets out of alignment way too easily.

Ride height measurement is a critical part of aligning any MB correctly. Very few non MB facilities will have the equipment to do so.

How would that play out with airmatic where ride height can be adjusted? would it make it easier for any shop or the opposite, where startek is required.

With airmatic, a SDS with Xentry would be needed if a ride height was out of specification. Technically the vehicle should be commanded to move to it's calibrated level with Xentry during an alignment also.

One thing to keep in mind, if the ride height is found to be off, then the repair parts(normally springs)labor, and alignment are covered under the factory warranty.

To adjust castor & camber one requires 3 way fluted bolts to do correction.
