on a side note, ive noticed that the passenger side mirror housing is not as big as the drivers side. the drivers side mirror housing is deeper back to front than the other, does anyone know why?

Switching the locator lighting on/off
If you switch on the Locator illumination function, the exterior lighting is switched on for a short time when it is dark. The light switch must be set to (see the vehicle Owner's Manual).
The exterior lighting remains on for 40 seconds after the vehicle is unlocked. When you start the engine, the locator lighting is switched off and automatic headlamp mode is activated.

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that the driver's outside mirror dims automatically, and the passenger mirror does not dim at all...

True, and also with less housing depth, the passenger mirror is actually positioned a little more forward than the driver's, increasing visible range in the mirror itself. hmm

I pitched this thread in the c63 board to see if ANY c63s have it. If it's not a c63 option that excludes part of the mystery.
Another theory could be that cars with reversing camera or 360 may not get it. This is because mb ***** footed on 360 availability for a while last year and there were some confusion as to whether it is available on 205 platform. Remember that the cameras go under the mirrors as well. Mb may have pulled these lights for a period of time to resolve the situation.
Based on this theory, any kind of back up camera on some 2016s might remove these lights even though they are not related. Just my thoughts of course.

NO PUDDLE LIGHTS. Dealer had no idea why they are not there but are in the visual.

Drivers side mirror housing is larger because it houses GPS and Telephone antennas.

WOW. I always thought the top 5 lines on the rear windshield had that function, since they dont do anything when the rear defroster is on. I'm glad I now know, thank you! so maybe the top top lines across the rear windshield are the radio antenna?

Actually, I think there must be an altogether different reason. The outside mirrors on MB sedans have been different sizes for many years. My 1988 190E was that way - and that was way before the advent of GPS and even OEM cell phone antennas. IIRC, the driver's side mirror was wider but not as tall, while the passenger side mirror was more square-ish. They told me it had something to do with offering the driver the best possible visibility and minimizing blind spots. The only electronics in those mirrors was the heating elements on the glass - they weren't even electrically adjusted (they had mechanical levers to adjust from inside the car).

Vic--you said the mirror has "GPS and Telephone antennas". I am in the USA and I thought the bluetooth only connected the phone to the car's audio system with the only telephone antenna used being the one in your phone. Is it different on European systems? Or do I not understand?

The Telephone antenna is only fitted if your car is eqipped with SA386 Convenience telephony.
I only have the GPS antenna in my mirror but the bracket and space to fit the Telephone antenna is still there.

I've been in several loaners and I have noticed some seem to have these and others don't. There could be something to them being removed. It's not unusual for manufacturers to cut costs from MY to MY. Newer isn't always better.

It looks like they removed them for a certain batch then put them back in the next batches of cars? Either way, they make a big difference at night and are definitely noticeable. It's a shame my car doesn't have them.

The 2015 loaners I have had had them but not the 2016s. My 2013 has footwell lighting too which doesn't seem to be in the newer models.
For a long time they had removed the back lighting on the headlight switch, even on the S class. At least that has been returned.
It's annoying how manufacturer cut little things like that out all the time.
