Retrofit CarPlay in W205

A quick phone call did not work well. The external Mic I had hooked up was working, but no audio output, I will see if I can get that going this week.

I had some issues with AUX for phone calls as well, now it is working but it is BAD. The mic they provide is absolutely trash and the output is also low quality and I don't understand exactly why is that. In order to force everything via AUX and CP, deauthorise your phone from MB bluetooth interface and delete MB from iPhone bluetooth settings. This way the iOS will always default to CarPlay for all audio, be it input-output for music and calls. I also have the files for a firmware update to the box, it is version 3.8.0.0906 build date 2019-08-15. I can send you the update files if you need them, they might solve some issues as well.

What benefit did the update provide? It would be great to get those files.

I hear ya. Audio to car is Bluetooth, but you have to be plugged into the box to do anything CarPlay. Microphone is sporadic if it works - and mainly it does not. I tried keeeping my phone out to see if that is where and it doesn't work. Half the time Carplay tries taking the calls, but it doesn't work. I have to use the phone to switch back to MB Bluetooth - which defeats the purpose of carplay!

Someone on this forum just helped me retrofit / installed Mercedes OEM carplay / android auto on 2016 C450 AMG with audio 20.
( to protect his privacy, msg me if you interested in OEM carplay / android. he also sell the OEM carplay / android auto).
After the retrofit / install, everything still work like before, my 360 camera still works, Distronic safety features still work, everything still work.

I have tried the sardincar unit and although it's really easy to fit, and does work well with android auto the audio quality for Spotify etc was a deal breaker for me. for some reason it also hated my car and stopped the radio from working!

I'm a new 2017 C300 owner (car has Audio 20) and am also looking to add CarPlay/Android Auto (I use both an iPhone 7+ and Galaxy S9+) to my car. Is the consensus here to go with the Sardincar kit? How difficult is the installation to a newbie?

if you have audio 20, i would do oem. it is much better than any aftermarket solution. pm if interested in oem.. if you need to go aftermarket, i install joye auto units for people.

What do you think about this one? Does anybody have any experience with it? It seems it does support touchscreen via an overlay and also rotary knob. It gets activated with the media key, what is quite convenient as it needs to be pressed to activate the aux input anyway.

I got a 10.25" android screen from carlifemall in july 2019. Was using it for 6 months but not satisfied. When i connect to OEM bluetooth, the audio is clear, but if try and connect audio via the USB AUX, i hear some noise when no song is playing and the audio is not as clear as we hear from the OEM system.
