Having worked for a large manufacturing company for many years..I can assure you we will never get to the bottom of this! MB will not disclose truly what is going on or give a firm date! They likely have dual sourcing (they would be incompetent if this is not the case).....so its hard to believe this can continue indefinitely. But this will not help get to the bottom of this..and I doubt anyone in the U.S. at a dealership really knows more than this. Dealers (i.e sales personnel) are generally kept in the dark....management wants them to know as little as possible and only "sell what they've got"!!

Only 5 companies completely dominate this space right now.
http://press.ihs.com/press-release/c...threats-new-en

Continental must be either the primary or secondary source for MB HUD units since they already have MB units in the marketplace.
http://continental-head-up-display.com/

Nippon Seiki would be the either the alternate or the primary source depending on cost and delivery against attainment targets. I suspect they are the RC of the current shortage.

I agree. Any details that MB discloses are likely to only help their competition. Sales staff usually don't know much to begin with either. The company behavior is pretty normal here. You have to look at the global market to get any useful intel. The fact that the supply side is so concentrated makes it quite a bit easier to see what's going on. Continental and Nippon Seiki have probably already sourced additional contract manufacturing to fill the gap. Since MB has stopped approving builds with the HUD, this means that there will be some lag for pipeline fill even if additional capacity has already been brought online.

I'm sure there will be a few more months or rolling shortages. Nothing to get too nervous about. I guarantee it won't resemble the supply shortage of .22 ammo that started back in 2013.

Not sure how many suppliers MB uses as sources, but in my car the HUD is made by Continental.

Can't Mercedes just get HUDs from other sources to put in build for August?? How come BMW Audi Jaguars etc don't have this problem?

.
I bet if you keep *****ing, moaning, and asking the same questions that no one has answers for, everything will get better and the HUDs will magically appear for all builds.

According to MB, HUD will be replaced with a new technology called Display Up High or "DUH".

2017 AMG C63S Coupe
My dealer informed me today HUD was able to be added to my existing order for a 2017 C63S coupe, and the scheduled production date moved up from 1st decade of Sept. to 2nd decade of August, for US delivery. He provided screenshots from Netstar to confirm. Netstar also now includes the MSRP for the base car + all the options!

This pricing applies to C43/C63/C63S if true.

I anticipated it's a simple math that it's going to take out whatever is in standard. E.g. C43 includes Premium 1 ($1250) as standard, so Premium 3 is $5350 - $1250 = $4100

Agree. It states "pricing is subject to change", but I sincerely hope it does not, as for my build, I expected it would be in the mid-$90k's in US dollars. A comparably equipped 2016 sedan from the build-your-own is close to $89k.

I think it may be cheaper if the price changes...as I said the premium 3 pack should drop quite a bit for your C63S...

Posted elsewhere where this came up. The coupe packages and prices are different and the math works as it should.

Coupe P3 (top package, no P4 on the coupe) is $7400 on the C300. Since the AMGs come with P1 package, the prices is the $7400 minus the price of the P1 package ($2300 on the coupe) for the right amount: $5,100.

Where did I see what posted? The packages and the non-AMG prices for the coupe are in the order guide. The order screenshot posted above is for the C63s coupe, so now we have some pricing for that is well....the rest is math.

By the way, I should have clarified in my post above, the order being referenced with prices on this page is for a coupe, and it is being compared to sedan prices, which are not the same as the packages and standard features are different.
