C450 Brake Squeak

I noticed early last week that the brakes on the car squeak at times after getting hot. The noise was coming from the front axle. So I took it to the dealership and they verified the problem but didn't do anything to repair or fix it.. They refer to this L.I. document LI42.10.P-061801. Anyone know what this document entails?

I have no idea what is in that bulletin other than the title is "noise or vibration when braking". If the dealer is citing that as a reason to not make any changes, they should share that with you. Ask them to review it, or provide you with a copy.

That said, I suspect either there or elsewhere MB will say that with higher performance brake pads, some noise is considered normal.

There is a TSB out which calls for the installation of a shim kit to eliminate brake squeal. Your dealer should be able to find this on his computer.

I just got my car back from service regarding this issue, but my dealership made up some excuse and said that when I got my car washed elsewhere they used an acid based wash to wash the wheels which in turn got onto the rotors and calipers causing it to squeal. So might have to go to a different dealership to get it checked out. I was disappointed that they had to use that as an excuse.

I'm having the same issue. I've taken the car to the dealership about 3 times. The first time they said they couldn't replicate the issue, the 2nd time they said they did and replaced the rotors and brake pads, the 3rd time they said they couldn't replicate it, but that it was common for the car to squeal when braking in stop and go traffic. I bought a $60k car....why does it sound like a f***** taxi?!

Anyone had the issue with resolution or any pointers on what I should do next?

bringing the thread back from the dead. My C450 just hit 21k today and it's been squealing like a mother....for the past couple months since 15k or so. I'm very light on the brakes while driving, even spirited, I accelerate just enough for me to slow down near the car in front without braking or I engine brake when I can. I checked the pads and their is plenty meat left in the back and slightly less in the front. No dash sensors or error messages pop up regarding the brakes....Is there really a TSB to fix the squealing shimmies?

A gaggle of MB's
Although you have a "older" W205 - and technically after 15K miles brake work technically cannot be charged to MB warranty work - although at dealer discretion can be charged to Goodwill or Customer Retention - yes - the most recent TSB regarding W205 brake squeal - instructed that the pads are to be pulled - sanded to smooth level - and pads reinstalled adding Mercedes "brake goo" to the backing plate rear-face/plate sides.

I’ve had this issue since I got the car November 2016. I’ve had over 6 visits to the dealer. They replaced pads and rotors. They tried everything.

Nothing works and they gave up. Told me to just turn up the volume on the radio.

Sad.

That should have been covered under warranty. 20k miles should warrant pad and rotor replacements!

i told them but the dealer said warranty is only for the braking system, not applied on pads and rotor.
are you also experience the same way about changing pads for a minimum milage.

Contact Mercedes USA. No car unless you track it should need pads or rotors at 20k. It’s clearly a defect. Dealers rather have you pay than go through the trouble of getting warranty approval.

Idk about mercedes but hondas only cover 1yr 12k miles for wear and tear items such as brakes. I know its a different market for sure but wear and tear things might apply the same. But should they show some good will? I think so. But at the same time, i warped my rotors after only like 22k miles of owning it and i just put on new pads and rotors two days ago. And my rear pads started squeaking recently as well so ive done front rotors and pads and rear pads. Went with ebc redstuff pads both front and rear and oem rotors in the front. I paid 550ish for both parts and labor (paid my friend 100 for labor) and even though its not a small change, it was well worth it because my braking power improved so much with ebc pads that i thought it was well worth it.

I would get a second opinion to see if they are even worn. If not, then you would think they must fix the squealing without charging you for any parts needed since it's not a wear issue.

Also this has been a recurring problem since the 2015 first came out and MB is well aware of it.

Thanks for the reply, coz this our first mercedes,so we don't really know the brake pads life span.
that's why comparing with our 2015 lexus with 45K milage on it,until now brake pads and rotor still in good condition.
how much cost changing the front brake pads and rotor, just want to have idea. thanks and have a great day.

I noticed my breaks squealing a lot during braking. When I brought it in for my routine maintenance I mentioned it to them and they said the rotors and pads looked just fine. So.. OEM MB pads are squealy?

I got the same excuse today with my car back in for the brake squeal, "car washed elsewhere they used an acid based wash to wash the wheels which in turn got onto the rotors and calipers causing it to squeal." I told him that I only have EVER handwashed my car (which is true) and no harsh chemicals have ever been used..... That shut him up pretty quickly. I got a call back today that they are replacing the pads again......

Ridiculous that Mercedes after 3 years can't find an fix to this well known problem.

I pais $1,600 to replace the brake pads and discs after months and months of arguing with the dealer and my car being in the workshop over 10 separate days. They refused to acknowledge the US service bulletin in Australia.

The problem is still not fixed.

What they showed me is the rear brake pads that we were worn after 30,000 Km. On my W204 I didn't replace brake pads until 100k.
