new 2016 c450 air conditioning failure

just got a new 2016 c450 two weeks ago and the air conditioning stopped working. anybody else had this problem? tough to drive in the middle of the summer in 90 degree heat without air conditioning. though i shouldn't be surprised coz my '04 e500 had issues from the start, i thought this time it wouldn't happen again. guess i was wrong. and now it begins again...

I would assume you did turn the A/C on and set it in AUTO. If it's not working, bring it to the dealer.

yes i ran the a/c in auto mode and manual mode with climate set at "lo" and at temperatures in the 60s. i even tried turning eco mode off. nothing worked. a/c was selected in all cases. my car is at a dealer now. thanks.

it took a week for the dealer to make the repairs but i finally got my car back. i was told most of the time was spent waiting on the parts to arrive. i was given an invoice but my copy didn't have the labor and parts cost as the repairs were made under warranty. i glanced at the dealer's copy and it think it showed the ac compressor was about $1000. my invoice says the ac compressor, expansion valve and receiver dryer were replaced.

ac now works though i'm concerned my car had to be gutted to make this possible. it seemed like fairly involved process. if anybody knows what replacing the ac compressor entails, please let me know.

Even if it's extensive what are you going to do about it. This happens from time to time and Benz will take care of you under warranty

It probably make people who wants to keep the car past warranty uneasy since it has gone thru reassembling at a dealer by hopefully competent tech.

Another reason lease is better.

I also have a problem with the AC or it's design. All windows are foggy after a couple of hours of AC ON, windshield is a disaster! Need to wash windows from the inside every day... This car needs way to much attention. Wash windows and wheels every day isn't acceptable.

Most owners won't care and it won't affect them like this

What? Clearly you aren't doing something right.

Why not just ask one of the service techs? Hardly anyone here is going to know the answer to this and in the meantime all you're going to get a lot of misinformation and endless speculation. I guess I don't see why you're worried about this if the car isn't squeaking or rattling? Or does the car feel loose?

Compressor, valve and drier are all on the exterior of the engine and not especially invasive to get to. A bad compressor can sometimes throw oil down the line into the valve and drier, so it's not uncommon to replace all three if the compressor goes. Nothing to be concerned about. A $1000 tab for a Mercedes is not unusual. I don't think I ever got out of even a basic service visit for scheduled maintenance on my previous S Class for under $2000, and those cars were also under warranty the whole time. Granted they were S Classes, the mileage was getting up there and the maintenance schedule becomes much more intense north of 50k miles, but nothing about owning a Benz is cheap.

My last warranty ticket on the S was $6,000. I'm just used to it.
