Question about "Traffic Sign Assist" and the digital speedometer display
Hi, I saw this video on youtube and was wondering if the US market works the same.
At 8:56 you can see the new speed limit display briefly on the instrument cluster before it switches back to showing the vehicle speed. And the navigation continuously shows the speed limit.
Does it work like this for you guys in the US market? Appreciate the help.
Another question, does it detect the speed limit with a camera or does it use maps? I'm wondering if it can detect construction zone speed changes.

I agree. Extremely annoying because it's only due to our market size that they haven't bothered to invest in the development to make it work here! Even just standard speed database integration should have been done ages ago since you can have that in even an Aldi-class throw away GPS device.
I tried early on after buying the car to fiddle with the software using Vediamo, Xentry and a multiplexer. Although I was able to configure the SA code to enable the sign recognition, there's other SAM software updates needed as well so it never worked.
I had a look at the new 5 series BMW a few weeks back and saw it in action there. MB has to follow suit now and from the articles I've seen, they will ... it will probably take another year though for it to filter down do the C Class I imagine (meaning you'll never get it enabled on your current car).

Additionally it uses info from the navigation.
It seems that in the US the speed signs differ per state. I can imagine its hard to recognize them all.

in Oz they charge ridiculous prices, add obscene taxes to pay for bludgers, restrict specification choices and provide ****e support to the market... so missing functionality comes as no surprise....

One of the reasons I got my kid the new Mazda was that it reads the speed limit signs and sounds an alarm when she goes 10mph over the posted speed. Handy for inexperienced drivers. Does the same for lane departure.

It seems that the latest E-class can use the signs to set your Max speed on the cruise control. Don't have any experience with it though.

The retina reflection technology was a good system and used by Ford for several decades but when Mercedes took it over they found that the in-built distractometer was causing significant interference, resulting in what is now known to be lead-food syndrome.
I personally would like to be better protected from such illness, but each to their own.

Also, anyone know which zoom levels the speed limit is displayed on the navigation screen? I can't find it mentioned in the manual.
Or does the speed limit constantly show on the bottom left of map screen?

Same place regardless of zoome, either you have it or you dont
