Public Service Announcement:
Map Pilot Software v8.1 and North America Map v8.1 is now available from the Mercedes-Benz Download Manager. The map update is approx 18.3gb so it will not be compatible with the older 16gb SD cards.
Just tried in MBDownload Manager and it is not offering me any updates. This is on a card that is a few days old so I imagine I am still eligible for the free update.
i only updated software to v8.1 575MB, map stays the same at v5.0 North America
Did you reinstall the sd card back into the car and reactivate it? The map update will require the newer system software. Additionally, MB servers will only allow map updates within 60 days of the initial pairing to the vehicle.

What is the native Map/Software version that came with your card?
I received 2015/2016 Maps V 5.2. The card is 32 GB, and I was able to update to software V8.1, but it does not tell me there are any map updates available. I just activated this card a week or two ago.

What I'm curious is whether your map version is actually updated or did you mean just the software? I'm guessing Map Version should be 2017 if there really was a map update?

You have to update the software first. Both the software and the map data can not be updated simultaneously. I was previously running software v8.1 & North America v6.0.

Yes. My software is up to date, but I'm not being offered map updates... Interesting.
Do me a favor - look and review "Update" process pdf
Do me a favor - frankly on the dealer side we are kindof in a void on Garmin Map Pilot updates - meaning there is not a Sales Resource - or accessory/Otis resource - or SD card documentation from our dealer side to go by.
Over the past three installs - and SD card versions still come in 5.2 - we have used it as a exercise to go thru the Download Manager process on the 5.2's.
I have attached a pdf doc we have prepared so far as our outline.
I would appreciate a look-over and comment.
Yes - we get confirmed Map Update on re-validating the SD - but updated Map Version does not register in the vehicle - although map does appear to be updated
Most recent update was last done last week ... again - SD cards are still arriving fresh from MB as 5.2

Let me know your comments - keep the beat !
Hi. Yes that's the process I used for my card to update, but the maps remain at 2015/2016 and not updated. I can update the software just fine to the latest version (8.2) but it does not offer me any "map" updates...
and here is mine.
look at the map version, showing Map: 2015/2016 (v5.0) North America
yes, after i updated the software to 8.1, i re-pair it to the car.
i bought this card in Feb 2016 on ebay

As I understand it, map data updates are only available 60 days from the initial pairing date. Assuming the card was activated in February, you would definitely be out of the update window with the MB server. However, the navigation software can be perpetually updated.

C class. This thread was created in the w205 subforum.
The card used in my pdf example was dealer stock SD card - received from MB on May 25th - W205 v5.2.
1. Any comments on my posted process ?
2. When someone reference "updated software" was does that mean to you for W205 ?
3. Yes - in my example - SD card is re-verified with updated maps and 8.1 - but when in the W250 shows original map version in settings.
I am just trying to get to the root of all of this regarding W205 Garmin SD Nav - it is unfortunate on our side (dealer) frankly we do not have guidance at any of our access points ( Parts or Service) what the fr*ck to do...
More here on this forum have experience - so worth the effort from our side to ask for input - so that we can better help/advise our customers.

this is just bull**** !
so we have to spend 600$ every year to get the newest map data?
actually i bought mine at ebay for 450$
The updated map version should be displayed in the vehicle..
Totally in agreement with you. That's the reason why I created the thread; MB does not actively publicize map data and nav software builds.
I paid 170 for my maps for my 2016 Mercedes C class 300 sedan from eBay and I have 90 days from the date that I purchased it to update to the latest map free.

did you update to v8.1 map yet?
I'm thinking of doing the same.
I'm sure buying this outdated version (then update to v8.1 map) is cheaper than buying the newest version on eBay.

It's 60 days not 90. If your are still within your update window, I would do so ASAP.

Are there any visual updates and/or new voices with the 8.1 software? I'm out of my 60 days free update period for the maps, but the software update would be worth it if there's new substantial features available.

Compared to v5.2, the UI has been update to be more consistent with the factory Audio 20 UI. Although the following clip is in Dutch, it provides a good overview of the visual changes.
I like the old software better. on the new software, the lane assist is at the far right top corner. on old software, if I recall the lane assist is on left top corner near the driver, alot easier to see.
