Updating US Garmin Map Pilot SD Nav Card
I have been dealing with updating the Garmin Map Pilot SD Nav Card on a ongoing basis for the past several months.
The reason for this is up to now the SD Nav Card shipped to dealers in the "old" original versions of Garmin nav system (system V5.x) and that has the "old" original US map (map V.x) - when now for both the system zV8.x and map V8.x available.
You can effectively to effectively download and upgrade BOTH the system and maps overnight.
What you need:
1. SD Card Reader - like this $12 Amazon pick - do not use SD Reader for the next two steps
2. No SD Reader - Download and Install Adobe AIR for free using this link Reboot after Install
https://get.adobe.com/air/
3. No SD Reader - Download and Install Mercedes Download Manager from this link- Reboot after Install
https://shop.mercedes-benz.com/dcp/s...map-pilot.html
4. After Download Manager Install/Reboot - from Home Screen - Plug in SD Reader (no card) - then after Reader Plug-In - Insert your Nav Card - and your Nav Card must already be activated from your Mercedes - a Nav Card stright from the box won't work.
With SD Reader Plugged In - activated Nav Card inserted - at this point - you are ready - however nothing will be happening yet.
5. Open and Run Download Manager
6. Follow the prompts - use User01 as your Login and Password
7. Download Manager will recognize your activated Nav Card - and tell you if System Update is available - and tell you if Map Update is available
8. You can update BOTH System and Map at the same time - UNDERSTAND Map Upgrade will take about 5hrs - and BEST if done in the evening - and BEST if you deactivate anti-virus during this download.
Daytime Map Upgrade - and/or Map Upgrade with firewall or anti-virus active - CAN lead to system lock and/or interupted download - which takes you back to the beginning for another 5hr session.
9. After download of either or both System and Map upgrade - you will need to reactivate your Map SD in your vehicle again
10. BIG TIP - if you have already upgraded once - under the current web portal you CAN check later and upgrade a 2nd time to next newer version when available.
HOWEVER you MUST use a different login name and password to check. Example - if you used User01 for the 1st upgrade - use User02 to check for and/or download the next newer version when available

Thanks for listing down the steps as I had problems upgrading it the second time. It seems that the old id doesn't work at all. When I tried the download in my country (Singapore) it prompted that the update will take 12 hours. I use a VPN via A German server and the update took about 3 hours or so, I cannot remember, but like you said, it is long.
The first thing is that MACOS doesn't seem to be supported.
After following the steps, now the problem is that the "Server is unavailable, try again another time" or something to that effect. This was when I was using a VPN via a German server, tried another country and the same issue occurs.
I will try again another time and see how it works.

Embarrassing update:
I log in again using "User02" and everything worked. For the last update, I used my own email address so didn't occurred to me to try User02. The last update performed in December 2016.
Using a VPN via Germany, the update took a grand total of 10 minutes. Software update did warned that the system interface will be changed.
Last thing to do is to test it in the car!
Thanks again for the simple yet highly effective tip.

I haven't revisited SD "On Line Upgrade" in awhile... rather than trying to march up older versions ... been easier for me to get current V8.2 fresh SD card from reliable eBay seller Dominorose..

i just bought a garmin sd card from ebay few days, it preloaded with v5 software and 2015/1026 v5 map. i only able to update the software to v11. with old v5 map shows as up to date.
if i recall i read it somewhere, you have to drive atleast 200 miles then it will let you update to the latest map. can someone confirm this ?

I just bought the SD card on ebay from Dominorose and it activated fine in my '17 Cabriolet. Noticed some local roads don't show so I wanted to try update. The MB Download Manager link shown above must be out-of-date,since it showed only non-US links for "Mercedes Me". I googled around for "Garmin Map Pilot Mercedes" and found this link for it: ttps://c3tek.biz/en/update-garmin-map-pilot-audio-cd20 on an Asian site. It also installed Adobe Air. The card I bought is V8.1 and the first time I ran the Manager app it shows I can update to v12.0; will do it overnight tonight.
(I've been editing this question as I learned more about the SD update process)

This thread reminded me to update my SD card. The whole thing went surprisingly flawless. Only took about 45 minutes.

I have the same situation. I'm in the US and the various download managers I've found are outdated and doesn't recognize the card. The "newst" version has only the PC version as the iMac just went thru a new version of the operating system (Catalina). US Mercedes charges $99 for the update at the dealership and it was waived for me. Just saying. . .

Just an FYI to anyone in North America who has an upgrade available for their Map Pilot SD Card, there is a new 2020 map (v14) out there.
I did not have an upgrade available to me due to already upgrading my (eBay purchased) card from 2017 maps to 2019 last year, but I spent the last week (thanks to quarantine free time) reverse engineering the update process to make the new map available to me.
I also swapped out the vehicle icon as well to a Tie Fighter.

Advice for anyone updating, make sure that your SD card isn't set to "write protect" and that your card reader is working properly, it will save a lot of frustration.

Can anyone recommend an ebay seller for the nav sd card? There’s so many and I can’t seem to differentiate them from one another. For reference I have a 2017 c300. Thanks!

It may also be someone related here, I have a 2015 C300 that periodically pulls in the Satellite Traffic subscription on the GPS, but I don't have the Traffic package and if I call my provider, they say that my car doesn't support it. I know for a fact it does because I've seen the traffic!
