C300 Windshield Replacement

Has anyone had their windshield replaced on their C300? I’ve been trying to get official pricing for part + labor but haven’t been able to get one from any of the local dealerships in the D.C. Area. I most likely need the OEM windshield because I have the Advanced lighting package, driver assistance package, premium package, and HUD. It sounds like it’s better when calibrating the sensors.

I need to get mine replaced (rain sensing only). Quoted a laughable $1530 by the dealer. It runs about $300 from other windshield shops.

I too had mine replaced by a local windshield shop. 2016 C300 with rain sensing. Also paid ~$300 and no problems.

Windshield replacement is a specialty task, seldom, if ever, preformed by the dealer. In those instances wherein the dealer provides a quote, without a doubt, the intent is to outsource the task and also add cost. The same can be said of independent repair and body shops.

Part of the problem is it is a low volume task. And if breaking the glass during installation the shop buys it. Thus automobile shops out source this work to glass shops whose technicians do nothing but replace windshields...every day.

The issue is that if you have brake assist, the dealer has to recalibrate the sensor.

Got a quote from Safelite for $550 for the windshield but the dealer wanted an additional $300 to calibrate the system

Isnt that a standard feature? Meaning that all windshield replacements would need the calibration?

I don't think it is. I started to go thru Safelite and the first windshield they brought for the install didn't have the cutout for the sensor.

When I spoke with the dealer, he confirmed they need to recalibrate the sensor after the windshield is replaced.

I didn't bother to ask him what would happen if they don't. My concern is the system be turning on an slamming the brakes for no reason.

Hmm...I'm gonna take a look at the brochure for my model year (15) to see what it says about brake assist.

Did they provide OEM Glass (With the signature in the lower passenger corner) or were you provided 3rd party glass with alternative branding somewhere? I realize many will not care about this detail, but for some it is a sticking point, and I'm genuinely curious. $300 sounds really inexpensive if its OEM glass, and something I might look into as I accumulate more and more rock chips and imperfections (if its only $300 for OEM glass)

There are several people selling genuine Mercedes windshield signature decals on ebay and they're only $10. Might be a good option.

Going through this right now. USAA is making me get reimbursed for the oem replacement for $1200. Dealer took my cracked windshield off (which cracked more while removing) only to find out they ordered the wrong one. Been 10 days with a ML 400 loaner. On top of the original 6 days it took to get the wrong windshield sent to the dealer.

Got it fixed by the dealer- $1150. Would recommend that option if your car has sensors or cameras attached to the windscreen

Did it just recently thanks to a full crack. I went to safelite, and it it's not a MB part replacement. Just got one that fits. No issues with rain sensors or anything, no distortions. All in it was about 500 dollars.

Worth checking to see if your windshield is covered as part of your insurance plan too. I was able to get OEM glass replacement for zero deductible when I got a big crack in my line of sight from road debris.
