Heck, I don't trust mechanics anymore if I have a choice, I've been victim too many times. The only issue with door panels is there are often plenty of delicate clips and trim pieces, so removing them has to be done carefully. These cars are new enough that embrittlement shouldn't be an issue.

1. Remove/install the door trim
2. Remove/install the window glass (easier than I thought)
3. Remove/install door handles
Once those are done you can access the $15 door led. *sigh* then Install in reverse order.
PRO TIP: use chrome browser which has a save/print to PDF built-in to save the docs to your computer.
By the way, removing the door trim is actually the easiest part.
I may do a DIY led install myself later.
**Sample attached**
EDIT: I actually have to remove my passenger side door lining today to swap my aftermarket spinning tweeter (back to OEM), before I bring my car in to get the door led fixed. I don't want the tech to accidentally damage it if he needs to remove it for the led install.

The window regulator panel must be removed completely as the led housing is built into its reverse side and this means disconnecting the wiring harness to the door. Even with the regulator removed getting the old led out is a bit fiddly so would be impossible in situ.

No, not the white item arrowed, the entire black panel must come out so you must also detach the wiring harness at the A pillar. The LED housing is built in to the rear of the large black panel.

I ran out to the dealer to get a copy of my last led removal invoice. Here it is. The tech put in lots of notes.
#6 A099-820-01-83 light control element
They could easily redesign this so the led bulb and base are separate. Then all you do is remove the door handle and pull the led out of the base and insert a new one. Issue solved.

Just got back from the dealer and had my two doors done. I asked service guy for the WIS sheet and he said there isn't one for the "removing and installing door handle leds" (like I said).
However, the tech just printed up the following sheets:

I've had 1 light changed under warranty but the colour/hue is completely different to the other handles (other handles being a blue/white tone) with the new one being yellow.
According to service centre they think that Mercedes have upgraded the LED bulb to a more durable one but part number has remained the same. Just a pain that I have to go back and either get 1 re replaced or 3 replaced, just appreciate that its on Warranty.

Cool white leds around 5000k (actually looks very white, tiny tiny hint of blue) is what is desirable, but are not provided. My car is diamond white and i can see the yellow light from my handles.
MB may have replaced the hotter cool white leds with warm white to circumvent the burnout issue.

Yellow led (warm white) might be ok and may just mean a different led temperature (around 4500k), but is not a good look for a premium Mercedes Benz. IMHO.

Really doesnt look great against the white.

I had one blown whilst under warranty and as colour didn't match, I complained they are going to check new one is not faulty. They need to check the part number/serial of old unit to new. If the new one if different they will replace the other 3 with the yellow ones 😢
