Consensus on size of Winter Tires for Staggered 18” 5 Spoke AMG Wheels?
I have a ‘15 C300 4M Sport with :
225/45/18, 7.5 j Et 44 - front
245/40/18, 8.5 j Et 49- rear
I am in the market for snow/winter tires for my staggered wheels. I have read a few threads on this but all of them are over a few years old. Some members say to stay with the original sizes. A couple other members say they run 225/45 front and back with the staggered wheels. Can this damage the 4Matic?Any issues running the same size all around for those of you that have been doing it for a while? Or should I stick to the original sizes? Thanks for your time.
When my car arrives I plan to go with a square set-up that will allow tire rotation. I will get dedicated winter rims and downsize to 17" to get a greater sidewall height.
Would not recommend repeated dismounting and remounting of tires on your existing rims. This could damage the tire bead.
The OEM size for square on a current year model is 225/50 R17 on 7 J x 17 ET 48.5. Not sure what a 2015 was for 17" rims.
From willtheyfit.com
No significant impact to speedometer but wheels will be slightly less pokey, more so in the rear.
Rear- Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 20.1mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 18.1mm less than before.
Front- Compared to your existing wheel, this new wheel will have an inner rim which is 2.4mm further away from the suspension strut. The outer rim will poke out 10.4mm less than before.
Another resource is Tirerack.com that suggests either square 225/50R17, square 225/45R18 or the staggered set-up you listed. Give them a call or chat online. They are very helpful.

Same boat here. The official word from MB Canada is that, yes, you can replace the rear (wider) tires/rims with the same size as the front without any problem. When I got my 2018 C300 with AMG Sport Package (staggered), I purchased a set of 18" snow tires on alloy wheels all the same size. Haven't had any problems.
I have been looking around for a pair of rims/summer tires with the same specs as the front to replace the rear ones so that I can rotate the tires. With the staggered set, can't rotate.
I Have 2019 C300 Sport pack and ooking fo same setup for winter.
Found good deal for 18 X 8 ET 40 Alloy wheel and 225 45 18 tires. any one has this setup? any rubbing?
I have been running 225/45-18 on front AND back for the winter for three seasons with absolutely no issues. I run Pirelli sottozero run flats on standard 18x8 rims from Tire Rack. I couldn't be happier. In the Spring I just swap my original rims and tires back on.
New owner.....2019 C300 4Matic. Just installed a set of Blizzaks this week. Had to go buy a jack and wrench and left the "smaller" tire in the trunk in case I get a flat. Ugh. Pirelli run flats that I hear nothing but bad news about, no jack, no wrench, no spare. "It is or it isn't??" My jaguar gave me a donut, jack, wrench....

This is a bit surprising. I've been running the Pirelli Sottozero Series 2 and Series 3 run flats for three winters now. Never an issue getting around. I've driven in multiple ice storms, 7 inches of unplowed snow, you name it. The only issue I had with the Series 2 is that they tended to wear a bit prematurely. I'm on the series 3 this winter and drove in the last two ice storms with no issues. I'll be curious to see how they wear.
The car came with Pirelli P7 Cinturato tires. All season but ratings are not good on this tire, especially on wet/winter roads. I've been swapping out for Blizzaks on all my cars for years....cheapest insurance there is for winter driving and gets me at least 5 winters saving a lot of miles and wear/tear on the nice rims/tires that came with the car.
