2015 W205(C300) Cabin Filter (under-hood)

I replaced the OEM combination filter(under-hood, air-intake) today by myself with a febi bilstein cabin filter. I noticed that the OEM one has some light black coat on it, not sure whether it is the activated carbon coating or just dirty (but it looks like not dirty since not obvious big stuff chunk in there)? But I am certain that the febi bilstein cabin filter does not have light black coat on it so it appears totally white. Anyone had experience on replacing the combination filter(under-hood, air-intake) by themselves and could you please tell me whether the OEM one has carbon coating? I am sure that the inside filter(at blower housing) has the carbon coating but idk about the under-hood one. If the under-hood one does have carbon coating then I may purchase a new OEM one.
Also, anyone has idea about the quality of febi bilstein cabin filters?

Thank you all in advance.

Black normally indicates carbon filter, white normal filter.

Carbon filters can be twice as expensive as normal ones.

Is the OEM one (under-hood) the activated carbon coated? I have checked many videos in YouTube it does not seem to like carbon coated.

I'm in the same boat. Replaced both the under hood and behind glove box cabin filters last weekend and found that the originals were either extremely dirty or of a carbon type.

My replacements are Corteco brand, ordered from FCP Euro.

I have no idea as I haven't changed mine.

Just going on experience of other cars I have owned.

Do you think it's carbon coated? I have asked a few Youtubers they said the OEM under-hood one should be white, and the one under glove box must be carbon coated

Yes, the one behind the glove box is for sure impregnated with activated charcoal. I didn't take a picture of that one but you can see it in the picture of the product I ordered (the bottom one in the photo):

Yea Thanks for sharing the glove box one can be seen obvious carbon coating. But I didn't touch the under glove one though I think that one will be difficult for me to replace. Just want to make sure whether the under-hood one should also be carbon coated.

I confirmed the OEM one does not have carbon coatings for the under-hood one. The blacks are just dirsts or dust.

if you're doing it because of smell, there's a new service campaign for that.
