Black wood trim cracking/splitting
Hi,
I’ve recently bought a c300d coupe 2018 with black wood trim.
I’ve noticed It has a lot of cracks/splitting on it.
Has anyone had this issue before? Would something like this be covered in the warranty?
please see image.
thanks in advance!

In my experience that would be covered under the factory warranty. I had some peeling on my window controls and they replaced the bottoms no questions asked. The CPO warranty is another story but you should be fine if you take it to the dealer. Good luck

He could be out on mileage but I was just stating it for future info.
For a time, we were getting those pieces separate, the lid or surround could be ordered on it's own, which meant the grain no longer matched. After enough of those issues they made them all one piece so they match like factory.

Thanks for the replies.
it has just under 13k miles, so in my opinion it shouldn’t be cracking like it is.
i have it booked in with Mercedes later on this month so will let you know the outcome.
thanks!

I can understand your problem .I have this spliting in the varnish on my wood .But my car is 31 years old and this can be expected .Yours is newish and should be split free .Its the sun that is the cause of it .

my MBTex seat cracked, its not covered by warranty, but Mercedes said that it did look kind of ****ty, so they hired a local upholsterer to repair it. I thought the repair looked bad, talked to Mercedes, so Mercedes just wrote off a few thousand bucks and replaced the seat.

oh they will absolutely replace it

well the rest of the story was then the heated seat quit working after they did that, then they tried to replace just the element, which is apparently a huge pain in the ***, and after a couple days just said screw it replaced the entire back and all the airbags too.

Here in the US I-Joe is spot on - as he see's it from the shop end. Under Mercedes New Car Warranty - unless there is a bulletin "Not-Too" - dealers can make the call on warranty replacement between the tech-ServiceAdviser-ServiceDirector - and MB "can" push back later on that warranty claim - but if it's a 1st-time-thing it "normally" goes thru - if a 1st-time-thing gets kicked back then a dealer can then use Good-Will funds to pay themselves (the tech can get screwed on that) - but lesson learne..
ON CPO warranty - ALL CPO warranty items have to be submitted upstream - and yes, cosmetic items are not technically covered - and "normally" even wierd-****-1st-time-stuff gets batted down.
Now - on the OP - UK, right ? MB dealers there are really/really a different kettle of fish - oft times approaching your MB dealer is like going to see a judge in a Courtroom - not necessarily a "happy thing" - but heck, that's the Brit's - and not unique to MB in the UK.
The "cracking" to me isn't really cracking - it looks to me like some type of contaminant/polish-cleaner-silicone-something has been previously applied - several times - and that has lead to a degradation of the original nano-top-coat-finish - and then lead to a swelling of the veneer - looks like "raised cracks" - like wierd ****.
Here in the US a 1st-time-wierd-**** thing under new car warranty "could" be done - with UK Mercedes dealer under new car warranty - don't know..

I've seen it happen if the car is parked in hot sun for long periods. Design flaw really. If you are in Australia, I have a spare one that I replaced with the carbon fibre one when the car was brand new. Obviously try warranty first.

Just to update everyone on this...
Mercedes are covering this under warranty and have ordered the parts. They couldn’t explain why it happened and what would have caused it though.
thanks for all your replies!

Discoloring
Ok see I just went to Mercedes to get mine replaced due to sporty inconsistent discoloring from the sun. Clearly, the wood isn’t sealed. They denied me saying it was due to cleaning supplies? I’ve never used any cleaning supplies on it and it doesn’t explain the sportiness of it? Idk what to do. Mine is a ‘17 c43 with 30,000 I’m still covered

I have a similar issue with one I just bought. Everything mint on the car except the wood fade on the dash shown here. Still under factory warranty. Taking it in on Monday to see what they say about. What do you guys think? Warranty should cover this?
#18
See that’s wild. This forum literally is why I told my service advisor it should be covered. I literally told him the discoloring is not consistent. I told him I discovered a new spot after getting in the car after work and it was just a dot. How is that cleaning supplies? Lol I asked for Mb USA # and called them last night. Should be getting a response today regarding it. Thanks for your response, hopefully I’ll have good news.

I have the same issue right now and mine is a different pattern but looks EXACTLY like this. I got turned down first dealership but from the sounds of it, it should be covered. I called mb USA as mentioned above should hear something today. Gonna post a pic of mine and what happens later today.

So mine is a no go smh. *******s had the audacity to say it was all cleaning products and he has never seen this in a Mercedes lol this was the service manager in the other dealership. Mb USA knows their wood is **** and probably told all of corporate not to replace them anymore. 😞
so if anybody has the hookup on a c class black ash middle console trim, I’d appreciate it. I don’t need the clock or any of the pieces, I’d appreciate it

Have never seen one with the coating coming off like that showing the light wood, that does look like cleaning damage or wear to me. The wrinkling of the paint I saw on much newer ones.

I have seen that type of "damage" in my area - it does look like a "wiping it clean with something" damage to me.
Under New Car warranty if my guys saw that for the 1st time - they would "try" to cover under Goodwill..
