Hey guys,

I was hoping any of you could give me advice on a recent fault my car has developed.

I have noticed when the car is about to change to petrol from electric whilst accelerating, the car jerks.

It tends to happen on lower gears only (1-2).

When I'm driving on complete petrol (charge mode) the jerking doesn't happen.

I do remember recently the car petrol was quite low and I drove it to the petrol station. The car had automatically gone into e-mode only due to low fuel. I don't know if this had any cause to it?

Thank you so much!

Well that's what happens when you get one of these stupid hybrids. Can't say I'm surprised.

It's been good to me for so many years to be honest! No problems at all. Also I had to get something like this due to the changing laws in London, UK.

I have a service booked on the 24th of June, wondering if they can look at it that way.

You will need to phone them and ask them to look at it before you go.

Will be interested to know the outcome as I have the same problem on a 2017 C300h which is a non plug in hybrid.

How long have you had the problem for? Are you going to take it to a dealer soon or have you already done it?

It's been there for awhile, I will need to get it booked in before the warranty runs out.

I wonder though if it's because I don't press the the throttle pedal very hard as it's more noticeable when turning corners at junctions.

Mine is a diesel hybrid.

Which year is yours? Do you have 7 gears also?

I am seeing its common in those. The jerking part but its not hybrid specific. There's a few post but they're not exactly to do with the jerk when the car shifts between electric and petrol, they're more to do with the transmission of the cars.

When will you be taking yours in? Let me know if its soon as my booking is on the 24th of June for a service.

It's a 2017 with the 7 speed gearbox.

I also have a 7 speed and have taken it in several times for this and the dealer can't find the problem. Mine jerks in and out of 4th gear when cold. 2015 here btw.

My problem seems to be when in changing down from 3rd to 2nd gear and going from the electric drive to the engine drive on acceleration.

This may not be gearbox related but more to do with the starter as I never seem to get the issue if using sport or sport+ as the engine is running constantly.

My problem is definitely related to the hybrid system as there is a significant lag when going from electric to diesel when trying to accelerate from low speeds.

This issue is not there when in sport or sport+ mode which turns off the hybrid side.

Hey guys,

a garage with a MB Star system has had a look at my car and came up with the following errors.

However he said, he couldn't work on it because he has to remove the hybrid battery and he's not capable of that.

So the issue of malfunction between electric to petrol
was the starter motor. I also had the battery control module updated as that also showed an issue and there is a TIP to fix this.

told that over 2k starter motor failures per year

starter motor replaced and fault resolved no more malfunction

Thanks for this. The strange thing with mine is no dash errors and no Star errors. It's going in for a software update in a week or so that I hoped may flush the problem out, but I have a gut feeling it will more likely be something else, probably along the lines of the battery control like you say. Excuse my ignorance but what is a "TIP"?

I think TIP is like a technical bulletin, update notification. The battery control module was updated and then the starter error was seen by diagnostic scan.

Hi Folks
My 2016 C350E with a visit workshop without shifting error is currently being diagnosed at the dealer.
I understand they believe its the ECU, but i am curious about the starter motor and other potential issues...as the warranty runs out Jan 5.
Any advice or insight is appreciated.

Thanks

Turn out my 2016 24k C350e needed a new transmission valve body and brake pawl...replaced under warranty and all is back to normal.
...I never had the jerking transmission, but apparently it was reported by the previous owner and resulted in a new software update for the transmission. The only thing I noticed was a delay shifting from reverse to drive and back...seemed to take 2 seconds per shift..which was a noticeable delay. After the new valve body, that delay is also gone. So far everything else seems to be working well...let’s see when the car gets some real use when life returns to normal.

2017 c350e Jerking between gears
Has anyone figured out what the car is jerking when I shift between gears. Mostly 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. The dealership can’t figure out the problem and wants to start by charging me $1400 to see if it *might* be the starter, relay and fuse. Then, they said if that doesn’t fix it they would try other things. I can’t afford $1,400, let alone that much just to see if it might be the problem. Can’t figure out how the starter would have anything to do with it jerking between gears??

I had the same issue on my 2018 c350e with 17k miles on it. The car has an impeccable service record. Took it to the dealership a few months ago and they were unable to find any issues. Told me the car was safe to drive anywhere I wanted to go. Took the car in for service b two weeks ago and mentioned that I was still dealing with harsh downshifts between second and first gear when the car was cold. This time they were able to get some error codes to pop up that told them they needed to consult with MB in Germany on how to proceed fixing it. Four days later my service advisor calls telling me they found a fluid leak in the transmission and it would have to be replaced.
