c350e hybrid

C350e malfunction battery

Hey in my country we barely have any hybrid specialist mechanics. it is also very costly
any and all help will be much appreciated.

Would love to hear what you discover...I 'still' love my C350e but sadly haven't driven much since COVID.
On a positive note, I have not used any gasoline since Covid started...all short trips on Electric only.

The same problem! Cannot see any replies! Usually cannot shift to R or D, message disappears overnight! In the meantime the Car cannot start!

For anyone else still interested or finding this later, this is almost certainly due to a low (probably failing) 12v battery. It throws up loads of electrical slips, faults (and fault codes), as you may know from conventional cars, and also seems to push the HV system into thinking it's losing voltage or having insulation problems (likely the cause of the Malfunction notification). This is also why it says it can't tow. Another common message asks you to drive to a dealership without changing gear (likely due to running gear actuators not getting enough juice). Other faults that may get coded to the OBD may concern cruise control, collision provention, ABS, oil pump actuators, the list is endless. Many of these are not faults per say but just flagging up as failing due to power loss. Suggest you change 12v battery, clear all codes and go from there.

Reason car won't start is likely that there's not enough juice in the 12v to depress brake pedal. Press a bit harder, past the switch which allows you to put in D, and you'll get it on. Or, better, charge up the hybrid battery and then try. If all else fails place a trickle charger on the 12v for a few hours and then try. Be wary of this, though, as AGM batteries need about 15v to charge and many ordinary chargers won't do it. I wouldn't advise messing too much with a dud battery either, since the HV, 12v, and aux battery (capacitor really) are very interlinked and you don't want to cause any more issues.

Problem with battery malfunction

Had battery malfunction, something with gear and towing forbidden for a month ago. Mercedes norway said it was ptc heater and isolation cable, something about the part of hybrid battery. After they fixed this for around 80000 NOK the fault is still. After they tok contact with mercedes in germany they needed to change the steering unit for 70000 NOK. And the Bill is up in 200000 nok for the moment. Have it insured. They say it will be ready after that but I dont know. I think i will keep it to diesel or benzin cars from now on.
