Removing Cigarette Lighter cover in 2018 C Class

Hello everyone

Could you please advise as to the best way to permanently remove cover for the Cigarette Lighter? I have seen pictures online with the cover removed, so Im wondering how they managed to do this?

Brute force? Cutting? Is there an elegant solution?

Thank you in advance, much appreciated.

If youre wandering why, I purchased USB led lights for the USB socket, which light up that area when I open that area. However with the cigarette lighter cover, the light is obscured.

i dont know if it' the same as my 2016.
if you dont care about the cover, just use force to break it. that' what i did.

By force breaking did you just yank on it to break it off?

How exactly did you get it off? Cut it off?

No I dont care about the cover its useless and serves no function especially given I have a socket always in there.

Maybe others who read this can tell me what they did, if they did pull it out or break it off?

You want to know whats weird, is that you dont and neither do the 2019 models onwards.

Im blessed with a 2018 model that has lol.

Still dont know whether to cut it off or use brute force. With brute force Im scared I might pull the entire console out lol.
